Negotiating the lowest possible price is no longer enough. Internal customers now demand more-they need business advice, guidance, and expertise to manage their sourcing requirements. They need an organization that focuses less on price and more on the value that vendors can provide. The organizational key to unleash the potential of strategic sourcing is the Vendor Management Office or "VMO." It is an over-arching organizational concept of strategically managing procurements and vendors.Resulting from over 10 years of real-life experience implementing VMOs, this book introduces the concept of a VMO and the philosophy that cost is not always a factor. The book is intended to be much more than conceptual. Concrete and practical tools considered necessary to launch a newly formed VMO are explored in detail. Appendices contain materials that can be easily adapted for use by any VMO. If you are interested in implementing a VMO or you are interested in vendor management as a career--this book is for you.

We are always thinking. Still, very few of us have accurate information about the origin of thoughts, their power and effects, and the fact that, incredible as it may sound, we can use our thinking to manifest in our lives anything we might want. Thought is the origin of a country, its constitution, legislation, economic systems and political ideologies. It is the invention of tools, machinery and equipment, the arts, science, astronomy, philosophy, and everything around you. You cannot pronounce a word or move a part of your body if you don't think of it first, to the point that every event in your life is a consequence of your conscious or unconscious thinking, but always the outcome of thought. Nobody can negate that people are happy or unhappy because of what they think, not because of what actually happens. Similarly, people fail, or succeed, because of what they think, not because of what actually happens around them. Thought is power, but unfortunately very few have had the chance to discover this great power within, and fewer still are actually using it. Thoughts can also become beliefs, which if not properly understood can jeopardize anybody's life and endeavours. They are a power too, that can be good or risky depending on the type of beliefs that the individual may have adopted during his lifetime. However, there is always available a way out from false beliefs and real ease in adopting new and right ones. This book is intended to share practical ways of using thought-power for all those individuals who are genuinely interested in overcoming limitations and the lack of success in their lives, offering, in the author's opinion, the best tool ever. Winging It Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn't for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die. In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig "Vig" Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life--but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines. But Vig can't give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera's discipline, Vig's loyalty... and the Crows' sheer love of battle. What does it mean to be a man?-Difficult question to answer isn't it? This is my story and my experiences as I was looking for answers to this question. Some men will face a crossroad and get stuck. Some men will continue on the same path that they have always traveled. A few men will get to a place, where it has gotten bad enough, to want to walk down a different road. My reason for writing this book is to discuss the following: What are these crossroads? What are the signs? What are the steps to follow a different road? All I can do is share what I experienced, and what works and what does not work. I also have the teachings I learned from hundreds of men that I have been blessed to be with and work with over these years. I share with you what the Elders taught me and what I have learned from over 20 years of leading men's retreats all over the United States. Along the way, I will pass on some of my dad, Greywolf's teachings. I'm not a therapist, physiologist, pastor, social worker or part of the healthcare community. What I am, is a man who heard his wake up call. And with the help of a group of men began a new journey into becoming a different man. Part of my call was to become a men's retreat leader author, speaker, teacher, facilitator and coach. After many years of doing my own work and leading men's retreats, I discovered there are 7 crossroads a man will face in his life. I do not claim to have all the answers because I cannot provide them.

From What Is to What If

The founder of the international Transition Towns movement asks why true creative, positive thinking is in decline, asserts that it's more important now than ever, and suggests ways our communities can revive and reclaim it. In these times of deep division and deeper despair, if there is a consensus about anything in the world, it is that the future is going to be awful. There is an epidemic of loneliness, an epidemic of anxiety, a mental health crisis of vast proportions, especially among young people. There's a rise in extremist movements and governments. Catastrophic climate change. Biodiversity loss. Food insecurity. The fracturing of ecosystems and communities beyond, it seems, repair. The future--to say nothing of the present--looks grim. But as Transition movement cofounder Rob Hopkins tells us, there is plenty of evidence that things can change, and cultures can change, rapidly, dramatically, and unexpectedly--for the better. He has seen it happen around the world and in his own town of Totnes, England, where the community is becoming its own housing developer, energy company, enterprise incubator, and local food network--with cascading benefits to the community that extend far beyond the projects themselves. We do have the capability to effect dramatic change, Hopkins argues, but we're failing because we've largely allowed our most critical tool to languish: human imagination. As defined by social reformer John Dewey, imagination is the ability to look at things as if they could be otherwise. The ability, that is, to ask What if? And if there was ever a time when we needed that ability, it is now. Imagination is central to empathy, to creating better lives, to envisioning and then enacting a positive future. Yet imagination is also demonstrably in decline at precisely the moment when we need it most. In this passionate exploration, Hopkins asks why imagination is in decline, and what we must do to revive and reclaim it. Once we do, there is no end to what we might accomplish. From What Is to What If is a call to action to reclaim and unleash our collective imagination, told through the stories of individuals and communities around the world who are doing it now, as we speak, and witnessing often rapid and dramatic change for the better.

India's recent growth rate has been impressive, with real GDP rising by over 8 percent a yearsince 2004. The country is also becoming a top global innovator for high-tech products andservices. Still, India is underperforming relative to its innovation potential. Even a dynamicyoung population--more than half of whom are under 25 years of age--is constrained when skillstraining and higher education are insufficient. To sustain competitiveness, economic growth, andrising living standards over the long term, India needs to aggressively harness its innovation potential. The term innovation is broadly defined in this book to include both the creation andcommercialization of new knowledge and the diffusion and absorption of existing knowledge in newcontexts. A unique feature is the book's focus on inclusive innovation, that is, knowledge creationand absorption activities most relevant to the needs of the poor. Concrete recommendations aremade for increasing productivity and welfare through the disciplining role of competition, includingtraining and education, information infrastructure, and public and private finance as supportmechanisms for broad-based innovation. 'Unleashing India's Innovation: Toward Sustainable and Inclusive Growth' provides nationaland local policy makers, private sector enterprises, academic and research institutions, international organizations, and civil society with a better understanding of the power of innovation to fuel economic growth and poverty reduction.
