From a Coast to Coast AM insider, a mind-expanding exploration of sleep disorders and unusual dream states--the scientific explanations and the paranormal possibilities. The sleeping mind is a mysterious backdrop that science is just beginning to shed light on. It was only some sixty years ago that researchers discovered REM, the rapid-eye-movement cycle that's associated with dreams. In Nightmareland, Lex "Lonehood" Nover travels into the eerie borderlands where the unconscious, dreams, and strange entities intermingle under the cover of night, revealing wider and hidden aspects of ourselves, from the savage and frightening to the astounding and sublime. Encompassing accepted medical phenomena such as sleep paralysis, parasomnias, and Ambien "zombies," and the true-crime casebook of those who kill while sleepwalking, to supernatural elements such as the incubus, alien abduction, and psychic attacks, Nover brings readers on an extraordinary journey through history, folklore, and science, to help us understand what happens when we sleep.

Discover the award-winning debut novel by the New York Times bestselling author of The Immortalists, a “majestic collision of sci-fi thriller and love story” (Bustle) about a young woman struggling with questions of love, trust, and ethics as the line between dreams and reality dangerously blurs. When Sylvie Patterson, a bookish student at a Northern California boarding school, falls in love with a spirited, elusive classmate named Gabe, they embark on an experiment that changes their lives. Their headmaster, Dr. Adrian Keller, is a charismatic medical researcher who has staked his career on the therapeutic potential of lucid dreaming: by teaching his patients to become conscious during sleep, he believes he can relieve stress and trauma. Over the next six years, Sylvie and Gabe become consumed by Keller’s work, following him across the country. But when an opportunity brings the trio to the Midwest, Sylvie and Gabe stumble into a tangled relationship with their mysterious neighbors—and Sylvie begins to doubt the ethics of Keller’s research. As she navigates the hazy, permeable boundaries between what is real and what isn’t, who can be trusted and who cannot, Sylvie also faces surprising developments in herself—an unexpected infatuation, growing paranoia, and a new sense of rebellion. With stirring, elegant prose, “Chloe Benjamin has crafted an eerie, compelling first novel which, like the lingering effects of a vivid dream, resonates long past its finish” (Karen Brown, The Longings of Wayward Girls).

In The Healing Mind, Dr. Paul Martin, a renowned professor behavioral biology, asserts that Wolfe's words are closer to the truth than we might imagine. Long the stuff of poetry and folklore, there is increasing scientific evidence that the brain and the immune system are inextricably linked. Dr. Martin illustrates with remarkable clarity that biological and psychological links that do indeed exist between mind and body--links that have in intricately constructed by evolution over the millennia, links that, when frayed or severed, are the root cause of more problems that you might imagine. Drawing together the latest biological and medical findings, The Healing Mind explains how we can at last reconcile many commonplace notions about "psychosomatic" illness and stress with a modern scientific understanding of how the mind and body affect each other. Martin makes impressive use of literary references to illustrate the degree to which we commonly (and accurately) observe the link between health and psyche. Here, presented in a fascinating and uniquely accessible manner, are the latest scientific solutions to some ancient puzzles concerning the relationship between brain, behavior, immunity, and disease.

Don’t Let Your Innermost Emotions Stop Your Potential Goodbye, Hurt & Pain is a unique guide that applies a cutting-edge approach to using revolutionary science to teach you how to discover your hidden feelings and turn them from negative to positive. Emotions are invisible, taken for granted, and dismissed much of the time─a paradox given they are some of the most powerful forces on Earth. They inflame wars, induce death, inspire invention, and control stock markets. More importantly, each of us has them─all the time. Blocked feelings block potential. Deborah Sandella uses advanced neuroscience research and her revolutionary Regenerating Images in Memory (RIM) technique to show how blocked feelings prevent us from getting what we want. She introduces a process that bypasses logic and thinking to activate our own emotional "self-cleaning oven." Using imagination, color, and shape to visualize feelings and get straight to the root of longstanding problems, she teaches us to: • Move destructive feelings envy out of the body • Let go of old feelings and traumatic memories • Feel and look like the best version of ourselves Discover the seven organic ways of using your feelings to attract more love, better health, and greater success. Become better in all aspects of your life with your personal guide to unlocking the ultimate version of you. If you enjoyed books like The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, The Book of Joy, or Atomic Habits, then you’ll want to read Goodbye, Hurt & Pain.

Flight from Wonder reports the findings from an empirical study of 45 Nobel laureates in science from the United States and Europe concerning the creative processes that produce scientific discoveries. To this end, Albert Rothenberg designed an interview procedure to delineate the content and sequences of processes that lead scientists to specific creative achievements. He conducted interviews with Nobel laureates in the fields of medicine, physiology, physics, and chemistry and carried out matching interviews with a control group consisting of twelve accomplished engineers on the faculty of a leading engineering university. Rothenberg's results demonstrate that the Nobel laureates use three distinct cognitive creative processes to achieve key formulations and discoveries; the detailed nature and structure of these findings were reviewed by the Nobel laureates. To predict his findings, Rothenberg engaged with autobiographical accounts and work-in-progress manuscripts pertaining to the creative discoveries of outstanding scientists of the past including Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Max Planck, Neils Bohr, Hideki Yukawa, and James Watson. The book will interest students and general readers fascinated by creativity and the development of scientific inquiry and innovation.
