Today, a kind of Rdemocratized mysticismS of those without much religious background flourishes. This mystical experience is not drawn so much of the tradition as out of contemporary experiences. In that sense, each of us is a mystic, and Soelle's work seeks to give theological depth, clarity and direction. This work conveys Soelle's deep religious knowledge and wisdom with her passion for social justice.

The Silent Cry traces the uneasy relationship between two brothers who return to their ancestral home, a village in densely forested western Japan. While one brother tries to sort out the after-effects of a friend's suicide and the birth of a retarded son, the other embarks on a quixoticmission to incite an uprising among the local youth. Oe's description of this brother's messianic struggle to save a disintegrating local culture and economy from the depredations of a Korean wheeler-dealer called "The Emperor of the Supermarkets" is as chillingly pertinent today as it was whenfirst published in 1967. Powerful and daring, The Silent Cry is a thoroughly compelling classic of world literature.

This anthology represents the efforts of twenty-three members of the Orange County Branch of the California Writers Club who have not only thought, "Someday I'll sit down and write something for publication," but also who have actually done it. Composed of professional writers and editors, teachers, engineers, medical professionals and clergy, we became an official branch of the parent club on April 8, 2001. Our legacy dates back to 1909 when a group of artists and writers, including author Jack London, founded an informal writer's club at a San Francisco restaurant. CWC was officially chartered by the state of California in 1913 "for the purpose of providing a forum for educating both members and the general public in the craft of writing and marketing their works." We are one of the youngest of the 14-branch organization. Divided into two sections finished work and Wet Ink, or works in development this anthology containing short stories, excerpts from novels, travelogues, and poetry; some are humorous, some serious, and some inspirational. We hope that our efforts will be a pleasure to our readers and an inspiration to future writers.

I began writing this book in October of 1996 and ending it almost three years later in August 1999 by the leading of the Holy Spirit (Jesus). With the awareness that there are many individuals in need of guidance after going through a trauma such as rape and for that matter any other trauma. I wrote this book with the efforts to help you see the light at the end of the tunnel that has been bleak for you. Allow yourself to read, absorb and apply that which has been given to me, to help you, make it through. Thank You And God Bless You Toni Jackson
