Corey White was a golden child. He knew this because his father would hit his mother and his sisters but not him. And his mother adored him so much she let him drop out of primary school. After losing his father to jail and his mother to heroin, though, he became a target for cruelty and dysfunction in foster homes. A scholarship to a prestigious boarding school lifted him out of foster care and awakened a love of learning and reading for him, but this was soon overwhelmed by a crushing depression and drug addiction. Through it all, he kept thinking - sometimes hoping, sometimes fearing - that he was destined for something bigger. Would he find salvation in the halls of a university, or a poetically grimy crack den, or through love? Or would the golden glow that had been in him since childhood ultimately fade, leaving only darkness and ruin? The Prettiest Horse in the Glue Factory is a memoir of trauma and survival that will break your heart and then show you how to rebuild it. It is a powerful, lyrical and darkly funny debut from one of Australia's brightest young comedians.

The Horse Connection Interactive Riding and Assisted Riding For Children & "Adult Children At Heart! " The Inspiration for "Horse Connection" was inspired by my love of horses & growing up in a Circus Family that encouraged my love of animals, especially Horses! This "Connection" with Horses was encouraged by my parents and early in my life my grandparents who grew up with farm animals. By age seven, my Dad and Grandpa Bell, went to the local "glue factory (this was 1952 and Horses then were sent to Slaugther Houses when they were old or crippled. They came home in a Farm Trailer and there was Dolly, who I knew was the prettiest horse I had Ever Seen!. During the summers of these Years, I had the privilege to Travel with my Parents on Polack Bros Shrine Circus: I had my first "Horse Job" at seven years! A loving trainer named Sonny Moore trained Dogs and ponies to work together in a Funny Way and his act was named "Sonny Moore's Roustabouts." This was more than fun ...it was a privilege that I learned to groom, water, put on harnesses and feeds these talented animals! These Early "Horse Experiences" influenced my Dream to work with Children and Horses in a way that was not Only Learning but Fun!! This book is a description and depicts Ways that "That Horses Nurture Children, Reduce theirs Fears, Increase Confidence, and have a New Friend to Love.. The Horse! My parents continued to nurture my Love of Horses when they "semi retired" from the Circus Trapeze Life they had known for over Fifty Years, and we moved into our Home in Duncanville Tx. There a Horse Named Tinkerbell taught me to ride all over again and my high school friend Vicky & I rode all over Duncanville and surrounding places! Tinkerbelle had one beautiful baby horse named Missy and she was a joy to help train. Then it was time to go to college and they were sold to wonderful families! 'The Heart of the Horse, Healing the Heart of the Human" is shown in pictures and stories throughout this book! Enjoy the stories and hope they will touch a place in your Heart & get to know the Horses in my Life who have now helped, healed or taught many many kids and adults to not only Ride but to love and appreciate the Horse as a Healing, Understanding, and Connecting animals to our Hearts!

For feisty young Lita Du Champ, New Orleans is a place dominated by her prosperous, hardworking family -- in particular, her strong-willed mother, Helen, who rules with an unshakable sense of propriety. It is also where Lita struggles to reconcile her loyalty to her mother with love for her restless, married sister Adele -- and tries to establish a life of her own in the face of crushing family responsibility. But neither she nor Mama Du Champ are prepared when Adele falls in love with Lucien Faure, a smooth operator with "the devil's good looks" -- and a decades-old score to settle with Helen. As Lucien's revenge is set into terrible motion against all of the Du Champs, Lita uncovers her mother's mysterious past and the dark secrets that drive her: Lucien could possibly be Adele's father. From the forbidden elegance and wealth of the Vieux Carre through New Orleans' most sinister backstreets, Lita must confront her family's history in ways she never imagined -- and find one last, desperate chance to save the future of those she loves. Hailed as "a powerful new voice in American fiction" (Henry Louis Gates, Jr.), Jervey Tervalon has drawn from his own heritage -- and the twisting family story that has lived and breathed in him his whole life -- to create a rich and unforgettable novel in DEAD ABOVE GROUND.
