The Bastion was humanity's last hope against the fearsome undead creatures known as the Inferi Scourge. A fortified city with a high wall, surrounded by lush land rich with all the resources needed to survive, protected by high mountain summits, and a massive gate to secure the only pass into the valley, the Bastion became the last stronghold of the living on earth. But one fateful day, the gate failed and the Inferi Scourge destroyed the human settlements outside the walls and trapped the survivors inside the city. Now decades later, the last remaining humans are struggling to survive in a dying city as resources and hope dwindle.Vanguard Maria Martinez has lived her whole life within the towering walls of steel. She yearns for a life away from the overcrowded streets, rolling blackouts, and food shortages, but there is no hope for anyone as long as the Inferi Scourge howl outside the high walls. Her only refuge from the daily grind is in the arms of her lover, Dwayne Reichardt, an officer in the Bastion Constabulary. Both are highly-decorated veterans of the last disastrous push against the Inferi Scourge. Their secret affair is her only happiness. Then one day Maria is summoned to meet with a mysterious representative from the Science Warfare Division and is offered the opportunity to finally destroy the Inferi Scourge in the valley and close the gate. The rewards of success are great, but she will have to sacrifice everything, possibly even her life, to accomplish the ultimate goal of securing the future of humanity and saving it from extinction.

Ralph Harvey is the head of The Order of Artemis, which in itself encompasses over 200 Traditional Wiccan covens worldwide, following "The old Religion," or Witchcraft in its original form. "An' ye harm none..." is the underlying principle, with absolutely no "black magic" or satanic connections. Ralph is a repository of witchcraft research in its purest, origianl form, and the book describes the history of Witchcraft, its suppression and re-emergence, with specific emphasis on Sussex - the last bastion of Witchcraft in England, and the first to re-emerge after the repeal of the Witchcraft Act in 1951. This is not the kind of modern spellcasting book that many New Age people have jumped into, but the original roots and ways of the Old Religion - as it was, and still is - in the community of serious, traditional witches.

The Charles Club is not the best men’s club in Boston—most people assume the Somerset is—but it is one of the oldest, rowdiest, and most alcoholic. It is also facing the greatest crisis of its one-hundred-and-twenty-five–year history. Demetria Constantine, the beautiful young Boston politico and Chairperson of the Massachusetts Licensing Board, has the Charles Club squarely in her sights. If they do not admit women as members they will lose that which is almost as dear to them as their principles—their liquor license.

This book deals with prejudice, specifically the neglected area of prejudice towards Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers. It describes a problem-solving approach at both practitioner and strategic levels that can overcome prejudice in many of its forms and help achieve greater social justice. John Coxhead has drawn on his extensive research with practitioners, strategic workers and the communities to highlight the issues for and about Travellers. He provides an analytical but practical approach that is also a toolkit for those working in public services to improve service delivery. As the definitive text for understanding the approaches and strategies by which prejudice towards a certain community can be effectively tackled, the book will be indispensable to practitioners in public services, particularly criminal justice and policing. It will also interest sociologists and the communities themselves.

The final stage of the Second World War, with the enemy across the Reich's borders, saw final desperate battles for numerous "fortified places" and blocking positions. Hitler ordered the defense of these fortified places such as Konigsberg and Breslau, Wesel and Kolberg, Danzig, Posen and many others. In these isolated bastions the war-weary German units offered desperate resistance, offered for good purpose. This stubborn holding-on to the last round saved hundreds of thousands of women and children, made possible the evacuation of hospitals and the transport out of surrounded Wehrmacht female auxiliaries. The fates of German soldiers were realized in bunkers and caves, in tunnels and fields of rubble. In the Hurtgenwald as in the Reichswald, during the crossing of the Rhine between Wesel and Emmerich, in the Remagen bridgehead, on the hill at Keppeln, in the Ruhr pocket, as well as in the east of the Reich in the East Prussian pocket, in Pomerania, in Silesia and in the Reich capital. Shocking scenes of apocalyptic battle were played out wherever Hitler's last bastions held out against the onrushing enemy, whether at the frontiers of the Reich or inside Germany itself.

Melodic mayhem is not for the easily offended or politically correct individual. The song lyrics in this book are not the same old run of the mill cookie cutter predictable lyrics that the majority of people are use to hearing on the radio or in their headphones. And once again I can proudly say that I can write hundreds of Heavy Metal songs without any of the tourettes syndrome that gets spewed out in todays Metal genre. I've been doing it for around 20 years now. If you read my first ebook entitled FORK IN THE ROAD - The Culmination of Angst by DeSoto then you know that my lyrics are from the core of my soul. I have always been very passionate about my lyrics, and am very proud of each and every song that I have ever written as they all have come with a great price. Even if they are not your cup of tea, I hope that you can see how they stand alone unlike any lyrics you will ever read. I promise that this is not an arrogant statement, but this is how passionate and confident I am with my lyrics. I will put my song writing ability up against anyone on this planets. If there is one thing that I can do in this world it is that I can write real lyrics that have density to them, without any of the fluff and absolutely not holding anything back no matter what. This took me over 20 years of agony, self hate, and mental anguish to finally be able to admit this and be proud of all of the many things that I am really good at. I believe that everyone of us should be able to have things that we are proud of and not be timid in admitting it. Like FORK IN THE ROAD there is also a theme of the book. I like to break it up a little just to let go of the proverbial choker leash from time to time with the occasional off course song and break up the monotony. But the theme is there. FORK IN THE ROADS lyrics were all written in the 90s. THE LAST BASTION OF HOPE has some lyrics that were written in the 90s as well, but most were written in the early 2000s and all of them were written before 2010. Many things were going on in the world during this time and I wrote about many subjects that are sensitive matters to many. We had the Y2K scare that I personally thought was hilarious, we had the horrific tragedy in New York on September 11th 2001, we had school shootings, bombings, racial tensions that seems to rear their ugly heads at the most politically opportune times, and many other topics that were on the front of anyone with brain cells minds. Which unfortunately the masses brains are more and more turning into molasses. As you read the lyrics in this book I am telling you please, do not try and guess what my stance is on many of the subjects because you won't be able too. I believe in peace and harmony always and forever until I am taken off of this earth. I am against war and do not allow myself to be labeled as Right wing, Left wing, Conservative, Liberal, or what have you. I choose to carve my own decision making paths and not follow the herds who are being led by the nose in droves. If you were cut from your own unique jig as well then you will see the lyrics for what they are. One song can completely offend you and go against everyone of your beliefs, then the next song will have you cheering and fist pumping, "right on you tell em!" This is what all song lyrics should be in my opinion. not just a bunch of fluff with the brothers Pete and Re - Pete at the helm of the already sunken tug boat. (AKA the mainstream music industry) Enjoy THE LAST BASTION OF HOPE and if you haven't already read FORK IN THE ROAD The Culmination of Angst by Desoto check that one out as well. if you liked it don't forget to leave a review and share your thoughts with others. Look out for more ebook's coming out by DeSoto soon.

The last battle for the fate of your country is coming. My kin are out for blood and revenge. Another empire sees a chance to come in and pick up the pieces of our war. Most of your warriors are stuck hiding in the swamps, always aware that they do not have enough numbers to win a straight fight. And from over the seas, my people bring their most deadly weapons, the Fateguard. Living suits of armour, imbued with mystical and deadly power. The end times have come for your land. I have fought alongside you, I have bled for you, I have made myself a traitor to all I believe in for you. And yet you still do not trust me. But you have no option. This will be our last battle, and there is only one place that it can be fought. We must defend our stronghold, no matter how many lives it may cost, no matter how hard it is. For if we do not, there will be no mercy and no relief from the terrors to come. Good thing I'm on your side.

Jackson, Mississippi, was the last place Dr. Brandon Sparkman would have chosen to work back in 1970. But an anonymous, threatening letter lured him there. In this memoir and historical documentary, Sparkman narrates what it was like to try to ensure a quality education for all students in Jackson and to save the schools from complete chaos and destruction during the height of desegregation. "Called to Jackson, Mississippi: Th e Last Bastion of Segregation" tells how, as a school administrator, he regularly faced rebellious communities, hostile parents, disruptive students, defiant elected officials, unreasonable judges, and, occasionally, the Ku Klux Klan. It describes how he confronted the most hated man in the state and how he courageously took the Governor of Mississippi to court while dismantling the last bastion of segregated schools. This historical account of the excruciating birth of desegregation in Jackson is revealed in a description of people and events that changed America forever.

United Nations Politics

United Nations Politics takes a unique approach that focuses on the politics that is, the persistent and mostly singular emphasis that all member states place on the pursuit of national political, economic, cultural and ideological interests of UN affairs. The project began as an effort to research and write a ten-year-later sequel to The Challenge of Relevance written by Puchala and Coate in 1989. This earlier volume was an assessment of the United Nations and its operations in the late eighties. United Nations Politics builds from a series of some 200 interviews conducted at the UN and in various member-state missions between 2000 and 2005. Among other things , these interviews revealed that the existing English-language literature on the UN fails to take into appropriate account the dynamics and the impacts of the internal and external political contexts within which the UN operates. This book directly addresses this shortcoming in the academic literature.
