Krishna aka Krish belongs to Nainital and lives with his mother, and has one best friend, Siddhu aka Sid. Krish and Sid have been taken to Mussoorie from Nainital by his magnate maternal uncle so they have better educational and career opportunities. One day, when he comes to know about his mother's demise, he is grieved beyond despair and his dog, Jhumru, brings to him a pristine book. The book seems odd to him since it contains only one handwritten story and a caution. But the titles of five stories are listed, in no ordered sequence, in the list of contents. Next day, Krish, Sid and Jhumru are lured into some other world or dimension for failing to heed the caution. There they meet with Nishe, a congenial girl of their age, and her mother, Shelly. This world is completely different from theirs. Here, people can perform magic and mutate themselves into various creatures while some can make themselves altogether invisible. But, Krish, Sid and Jhumru want to go back to the world they belong. In search of the manoeuvre for returning home, they come to know that whatever was written in the book is true, including the evil Kemodoak mentioned therein. And, as soon as they progress in their search for the way back, the blank pages start filling up, one by one, with the stories they were intended to convey. What happens to them? What happens when they confront the evil, Kemodoak? Do they succeed in bringing themselves back to their world? Also, there are many other inconspicuous things to be revealed in the other world. But the prime question is -- Who wrote the mystical book, and do the boys have any connection with the other world?

One day, Mama Ngonsu told her son: "Normally, a child grew up and stayed around to help his parents. The world has changed, and things are no longer as they used to be. Things must not be normal all the time, otherwise life would not be life." When Emmanuel Kwanga gets a University scholarship, he travels from the lake and hills of Abehema to the Great City. Everyone in the village has invested in him their hopes for the good life. When the life they've imagined is cut short by the University guillotine, Emmanuel Kwanga must struggle to make sense of what the good life means - for himself and for Abehema - in a world where things are no longer as they used to be. This novel is about coming of age and coming to terms in Mimboland. It is also about the fragility of life and the strength of the human spirit. The filth and screaming splendor of the city and the perplexed tranquility of the village are juxtaposed, as the tension and conviviality between tradition and modernity are lived and explored. Roads and drivers, dreams and public transport link different geographies. Faltering along or speeding away, these spaces of risk, frustration and solidarity are filled with popular songs as vehicles for understanding events and relationships. With every crossing of the Pont du Maturite the story flows, and its mysteries surge. In this novel, the worlds of the living and the dead intermingle, as do the natural and the supernatural, the visible and the invisible.

This is the moving story of a young man who found himself along with thousands of his comrades in the nightmare of Japanese captivity. Unlike so many (it is said that one Commonwealth POW died for every sleeper laid) Bill lived to tell the tale. Indeed it is remarkable that this story has not been told before, so graphic are Bill's memories of the hardships and horrors. The book goes on to describe how the experiences of those years have affected his life since.

A truly amazing story which shows how love transcends all time. A personal testament to the fact that love is eternal, that love endures and does not die when the physical body does. Love transports us through all of our journeys but we need to remember this. Twin soul love is powerful and a part of every individual where each of us seeks to find what we feel to be missing. But how do you know when it's found? How can you be sure about love when you have forgotten how it truly feels. When two people discover their twin soul love for one another, not only in this lifetime but also remember it from a previous lifetime, then they can guide us all. Finding love, understanding love, as well as appreciating our true self for who we really are, continues to be shrouded in the mystery of our day to day earthly existence. This enduring lack of understanding only serves to perpetuate an unwarranted sense of incompleteness and loneliness deep within us which all too often gives rise to feelings of fear, despair and discontent. So, as a consequence, we experience an insatiable desire to search for a mystifying 'something' which we somehow instinctively know we need but have little or no idea where to even begin looking. Concealed within this dilemma, and even more perplexing, lies the concept of our eternal soul. This elemental but powerful 'you' resides unacknowledged at the core of your very being while remaining seemingly silent as you journey in search of your ultimate happiness. This subject alone has occupied the minds of philosophers throughout the ages but to be aware that we have another aspect to compliment our earthly existence is as intriguing as it is confusing. To appreciate that each soul is but one half of its twin gives rise to an important insight into what motivates our need to do the things that we do, or to search for what we feel driven to find. This remarkable story tells of two people, Ron and Janet who not only found each other in this lifetime but were also together in a previous and very dramatic lifetime while being caught up in the revolutionary war which ultimately gave birth to the USA of today. Through following their experiences, trials, traumas and triumphs, plus journeys into the afterlife, you will learn more about not only how they discovered themselves to be twin souls but how important this whole subject is and what it means to you. In trying to figure out what compels you to do the things that you do while making the choices that you do then having an appreciation of the twin soul that you are brings an extra dimension of clarity. Through coming to know yourself better, then this inevitably leads to discovering your path towards your greatest happiness while attracting and expressing the love which you so dearly wish to experience along the way. While reading an entertaining story you will find yourself being drawn in to a process which poses many questions about the life that we lead as well as what makes you who you are. Combining real life experience with that of a fascinating journey into a world which we have virtually no understanding of then you will be led towards a greater appreciation of the love which is so important to you.

The great Calculor of Libris was forced to watch as Overmayor Zarvora had four of its components lined up against a wall and shot for negligence. Thereafter, its calculations were free from errors, and that was just as well-for only this strangest of calculating machines and its two thousand enslaved components could save the world from a new ice age. And all the while a faint mirrorsun hangs in the night sky, warning of the cold to come. In Sean McMullen's glittering, dynamic, and exotic world two millennia from now, there is no more electricity, wind engines are leading-edge technology, librarians fight duels to settle disputes, steam power is banned by every major religion, and a mysterious siren "Call" lures people to their death. Nevertheless, the brilliant and ruthless Zarvora intends to start a war in space against inconceivably ancient nuclear battle stations. Unbeknownst to Zarvora, however, the greatest threat to humanity is neither a machine nor a force but her demented and implacable enemy Lemorel, who has resurrected an obscene and evil concept from the distant past: Total War. Souls in the Great Machine is the first volume of Sean McMullen's brilliant future history of the world of Greatwinter. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

His subconscious mind refuses to unlock the terrible events that took place that day and he fears he's the one responsible for her death. His father swears Donnie was miles away when tragedy struck. Business entrepreneurs bought land near the great burial rock with plans to build a resort on the lake. The government refused to stop these men, so the Pictaw chief brought to life the legend of Black Lake. Ne-mu-te, the vicious, sly water spirit once again swam the dark waters. From the Fat of Our Souls offers a revealing new perspective on medicine, and the reasons for choosing or combining indigenous and cosmopolitan medical systems, in the Andean highlands. Closely observing the dialogue that surrounds medicine and medical care among Indians and Mestizos, Catholics and Protestants, peasants and professionals in the rural town of Kachitu, Libbet Crandon-Malamud finds that medical choice is based not on medical efficacy but on political concerns. Through the primary resource of medicine, people have access to secondary resources, the principal one being social mobility. This investigation of medical pluralism is also a history of class formation and the fluidity of both medical theory and social identity in highland Bolivia, and it is told through the often heartrending, often hilarious stories of the people who live there.

Frances DeWolf, wife of Seventh Cavalry surgeon James DeWolf, lay in bed alone on a frigid morning in 1875, listening to her husband’s activities in their military quarters—opening the parlor stove, tossing in logs, the metal-on-metal screech as he closed the stove door. She knew she should get up, but instead she curled under the warmth of heaped blankets and recalled their adventure so far. They had met in the Oregon wilderness where James was an enlisted hospital steward at an Army camp and she a teacher for ranchers’ children. She was 19 and he was 28 when they were married. In 1873, James applied for and was granted a transfer to a post near Boston so he could attend Harvard Medical School. But even with his Harvard degree, he wouldn’t leave the Army. So here they were in the middle of a frozen prairie. There were rumors that Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer would lead the cavalry in a campaign against roaming Indians next year. If true, she hoped her husband wouldn’t have to go off to fight as well. Voices in Our Souls, a historical novel based on fact, tells James and Fannie’s poignant story—one filled with joys and triumphs, regrets and sorrows, and above all else, enduring love.

For twelve years she captained the flagship of the Federation. But while her exploits are legend, little has been revealed about Rachel Garrett, her vessel, or the unusual men and women of her crew. Until now. When the archeological find of the decade hints at an earlier Cardassian civilization, it attracts not merely academics and knowledge-seekers but also those with far less noble interests. Among them is Asfar Qatala, a notorious criminal cartel with a disturbing connection to one of the highest-ranking officers on the Enterprise. Captain Garrett and her crew find themselves swept in to a maelstrom of kidnapping, extortion and murder -- as well as a desperate, secret struggle between the Qatala and its chief rival, the fledgling Orion Syndicate. And beneath the surface of the frozen world on which the proto-Cardassian discovery was made, another drama is playing out that will force Captain Garrett to make the most difficult decision of her career...amid ruins reputed to link the living with the dead.

Enterprise NCC-1701-C are legend, little has been revealed about Garrett, her vessel, or the unusual men and women of her crew. Until now. When the archaeological find of the decade offers possible hints about an earlier Cardassian civilization, it attracts not merely those seeking to quench their thirst for knowledge, but also parties with far less noble interests. Among the latter is the Asfar Qatala, a notorious criminal cartel with a disturbing connection to one of the Enterprise’s highest-ranking officers. Now Captain Garrett and her crew are swept into a maelstrom of kidnapping, extortion, and murder. Her best protection came from an unlikely bodyguard When secrets leak from The Gates, the hunt is on for a mole. All evidence points to Anson Daughtry, who knows their security inside and out. Only coworker Ginny Coltrane can help clear his name, but she's caught in the middle of a turf war between militants in the Smoky Mountains. More at ease behind a computer than with a gun, Anson makes for an unlikely bodyguard. But hunkering down in the Tennessee foothills, turns out Ginny's not exactly the "need to be protected" type. Still, with someone stalking their every move, Anson isn't about to let her out of his sight. Or, if he gets his way, out of his arms.
