Young Francis Hanrahan dreams desperately of a life different from that of his country-born, suburban-living parents. On his first day at his first job Francis makes his first real friend. Shay, a would-be older brother, introduces "Hano" to Dublin's appealingly seedy after-hours bars and drug-fueled parties. They are joined by Cait, a troubled teenager who spends her days in a stupor. But the noir thrills of underground Dublin cannot conceal the unemployment, corruption, and violence strangling the city. The Plunkett brothers, masters of "the subtle everyday corruption on which a dynasty was built" will use the friends—with tragic results. Torn between his friends, his family, and his own ideals, Hano ultimately falls victim to these powerful forces and commits a heinous crime. He flees through the countryside with Cait, wondering, as he narrates the events that set him on this path, if there is a home at the end of it. Controversial for its gritty portrait of Dublin in the 1980s, The Journey Home is Dermot Bolger's unflinching look at the personal cost of social progress, and those, innocent or not, lost during the journey.

Tom figured the sky's the limit and climbing the ole corporate ladder was becoming a breeze. A good paying job a sporty car and a nice house in the suburbs. What more does a thirty two year old bachelor need? Oh yeah, and a hot, killer girlfriend. Until 9/11....That's when Tom lost what was most precious and everything started going demonically wrong to the point that he doubted if God really existed. For weeks on end never ceasing horrible dreams and evil halucinations night and day were making him question his sanity. Was he slowly going mad? God has a plan for each of us and He sure did have one for Tom. The question is was Tom too deep into the demonic realm to see the signs and thus save his soul? And what of the girlfriend? We are all sinners and as sinners we are all lost but we must each take that journey home to truly find peace. All it takes is to bow the knee, are you ready? Kosta is as common of a man as anyone reading this book, no frills, no gimmicks just an everyday Joe. Though to his credit, he had been given an eclectic of talents that through the years had been able to meld together and hopefully developed him to be a Godly man. He achieved an associates degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in history that had instilled in him a pragmatic look on life. Because of his love for secular history, he read the Bible as a historical book and by tying the two together made logical sense to him, though the distance from the mind to the heart were miles apart. Knowing this, he too needed to start his journey home and through the years of raising a family and enjoying his five grandchildren the gap had finally closed. This book came about through the inspiration that God put in his heart to write and it is dedicated to HIS love and mercy that all of us can share.

"In Our Journey Home Jean Vanier sums up the lessons he has learned and the wisdom he has accumulated during the past thirty years. More than an autobiography or a simple history of L'Arche Our Journey Home describes what the experience of living with the handicapped has taught Vanier about the beauty and holiness of life. From this experience, he writes of the need to overcome the divisions and walls that separate us from one another and prevent us from recognizing our underlying oneness. Though rooted in the L'Arche movement, Vanier's message is really universal. He explores the basic meaning of human existence as reflected in such experiences as childhood, friendship, aging, illness, death, bereavement, loneliness, and community."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
