The behind-the-scenes story of the rise and reign of the world's strangest and most elusive tyrant, Kim Jong Un, by the journalist with the best connections and insights into the bizarrely dangerous world of North Korea. Since his birth in 1984, Kim Jong Un has been swaddled in myth and propaganda, from the plainly silly--he could supposedly drive a car at the age of three--to the grimly bloody stories of family members who perished at his command. Anna Fifield reconstructs Kim's past and present with exclusive access to sources near him and brings her unique understanding to explain the dynastic mission of the Kim family in North Korea. The archaic notion of despotic family rule matches the almost medieval hardship the country has suffered under the Kims. Few people thought that a young, untested, unhealthy, Swiss-educated basketball fanatic could hold together a country that should have fallen apart years ago. But Kim Jong Un has not just survived, he has thrived, abetted by the approval of Donald Trump and diplomacy's weirdest bromance. Skeptical yet insightful, Fifield creates a captivating portrait of the oddest and most secretive political regime in the world--one that is isolated yet internationally relevant, bankrupt yet in possession of nuclear weapons--and its ruler, the self-proclaimed Beloved and Respected Leader, Kim Jong Un.

THE GREAT SUCCESSOR details the realities of the succession of Kim Jong-Un as leader of the DPRK, with a rare glimpse at the face of leadership the North. WHERE THERE IS TYRANNY THERE IS RESISTANCE! THE 3RD GENERATION SUCCESSOR WILL NOT ESCAPE THE RESISTANCE OF HIS PEOPLE! THE GREAT SUCCESSOR details the realities of the recent succession of Kim Jong-Un as leader of the DPRK. From propaganda engines to “trusted” news sources, many of us will never know what really goes on in the Dark Kingdom. THE GREAT SUCCESSOR provides a rare glimpse at the new face (and belly) of leadership in the North. What is in store for the future of North Korea? Only time will tell, but The Great Successor provides some insight to the background of the young new leader of the most secretive dictatorship on earth. At only thirty, Kim Jong Eun could have a long future as a head of state, he could tow the line of his father’s Military First Philosophy to the bitter end (and invariable ruin of the state) or he could herald a new beginning of reform (in whatever form it will take), and lead his people out of the dark… THE GREAT SUCCESSOR hopes to answer: Who is this third Kim? Where did he come from? Should we be afraid of him? Will he make an effort to transform? Make amends, become friends? Or will he strike, sudden like a storm? Is he some savior, here to save the people from fear and famine? Will he reexamine Military First And is he versed in the ways of transforming A country, torn and tattered To a place that mattered to its people? Or at worst, will he in his thirst for power Build more useless towers, and weapons to reach At zero hour, the brothers to the south, the allies, the others To kill men, children and mothers? Is it in his intentions to attack? Or will he bring back the idea of utopia true? We beseech you!

*Includes pictures *Includes ancient accounts *Includes online resources and a bibliography for further reading In 323 BCE, Alexander the Great was on top of the world. Never a man to sit on his hands or rest upon his laurels, Alexander began planning his future campaigns, which may have included attempts to subdue the Arabian Peninsula or make another incursion into India. But fate had other plans for the young Macedonian king. One night, while feasting with his admiral Nearchus, he drank too much and took to bed with a fever. At first, it seemed like the fever was merely a consequence of his excess, and there was not much concern for his health, but when a week had elapsed and there was still no sign of his getting better, his friends and generals began to grow concerned. The fever grew, consuming him to the point that he could barely speak. After two weeks, on June 11, 323 B.C., Alexander the Great, King of Macedon, Hegemon of the League of Corinth, King of Kings, died. On his deathbed, some historians claim that when he was pressed to name a successor, Alexander muttered that his empire should go "to the strongest." Other sources claim that he passed his signet ring to his general Perdiccas, thereby naming him successor, but whatever his choices were or may have been, they were ignored. Alexander's generals, all of them with the loyalty of their own corps at their backs, would tear each other apart in a vicious internal struggle that lasted almost half a century before four factions emerged victorious: Macedonia, the Seleucid Empire in the east, the Kingdom of Pergamon in Asia Minor, and the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt. During the course of these wars, Alexander's only heir, the posthumously born Alexander IV, was murdered, extinguishing his bloodline for ever. Although it was an incredibly important period in world history, it is sometimes as confusing as it is frustrating for historians because the allegiances of the generals changed constantly and historical sources are often biased in some regards and utterly lacking in others. Although none of these men were able to replicate Alexander the Great's territorial success, a few carved out sizable empires and were able to establish long-lasting political dynasties. Ptolemy I brought Egypt back to a central position of power in the region, and Seleucus I built a strong empire on the ruins of ancient Babylonia, but other generals, such as Perdiccas, were killed early on in the fighting and slipped into relative obscurity. Some of the Macedonian generals had a significant impact on the region during their lifetimes, but they left no heirs to carry on their political memories. The general Lysimachus won control of Thrace and established a fairly important kingdom in that land, but when he died his successors all turned on and killed each other, effectively ending any potential dynasty. Similarly, Cassander was a Macedonian general who was involved in the Diadochi Wars, and for a time it looked like he was going to be the biggest winner among the Macedonians. Cassander became the king of Macedon, had direct influence over most of southern Greece, and was courted by the other kings and generals in their conflicts against each other. The Diadochi: The History of Alexander the Great's Successors and the Wars that Divided His Empire chronicles how Alexander's legendary conquests shaped the next several centuries, and how the successor generals carved out various empires. Along with pictures depicting important people, places, and events, you will learn about the Diadochi like never before.

The bestselling and controversial new history of the 'British Isles', including Ireland from the author of Europe: A History. Emphasizing our long-standing European connections and positing a possible break-up of the United Kingdom, this is agenda-setting work is destined to become a classic. 'If ever a history book were a tract for the times, it is The Isles: A History ... a masterwork.' Roy Porter, The Times 'Davies is among the few living professional historians who write English with vitality, sparkle, economy and humour. The pages fly by, not only because the pace is well judged but also because the surprises keep coming.' Felipe Fernandez-Armesto, Sunday Times 'A book which really will change the way we think about our past . marvellously rich and stimulating' Noel Malcolm, Evening Standard 'A historiographical milestone.' Niall Ferguson, Sunday Times 'The full shocking force of this book can only be appreciated by reading it.' Andrew Marr, Observer 'It is too soon to tell if [Norman Davies] will become the Macaulay or Trevelyan of our day: that depends on the reading public. He has certainly made a good try. This is narrative history on the grand scale - compulsively readable, intellectually challenging and emotionally exhilirating.' David Marquand, Literary Review

For centuries, controversy has raged over the authorship and genuineness of the book of Daniel. Is it an authentic document from the sixth century before the Common Era with a message from God to postexilic Israel; or is it a forged document written centuries later to encourage Israelites being oppressed by the Seleucid king, Antiochus Epiphanes? Robert Johns addresses these issues and more in his thesis on Daniels visions. Importantly, Johns establishes when Daniel was provided with his visions, and he defines why God provided Daniel with the visions. The Visions of Daniel the Hebrew Prophet examines the metal image, the beast with eleven horns, the Seventy sevens, chapter eights little-horn, and the 2,300 evening-mornings. It demonstrates that the enigmatic 1,290 days and 1,335 days are anything but enigmatic, and it identifies the reason why Daniels fifth and final revelation is so detailed. Appendices address issues of general nature, such as the historicity of Jesus the Christ, the popularity of dispensationalism, the identity of the abomination that desolates, and the integrity of novels representing the Christian-fiction genre (which focus on a seven-year tribulation period at the end of history). This book will be of value to every Christian who has an interest in Bible prophecy and eschatology.
