Download a FREE sneak peek of Fate of the Fallen, the start of a brand new adventure from New York Times bestselling author Kel Kade! Not all stories have happy endings. Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in head first, pulling his best friend Aaslo along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin, and the friends find themselves staring death in the face they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be or, failing that, how to survive. The internationally bestselling Three Worlds epic fantasy cycle The Fate of the Fallen was originally titled Torments of the Traitor in Australia. AFTER TEN YEARS OF SERVITUDE, Nish is about to be released from the blackest prison of the maimed God-Emperor, Jal-Nish Hlar, his corrupt father. Jal-Nish holds the two sorcerous quicksilver tears, Gatherer and Reaper, and with them controls all of the Secret Art. All opposition having been crushed, he has begun to remake the world in his depraved image. The only hope of overthrowing him lies in Nish, whom the oppressed peoples of the world see as a messianic figure, the Deliverer for, as Nish was dragged off to prison a decade ago, he wildly promised to return and cast down his father. Unfortunately Nish is powerless and without allies. But worse, his father wants Nish to become his lieutenant and become as corrupt as he is. Jal-Nish offers Nish everything he has ever desired and, faced with the unbearable alternative of another ten years in prison, he isn’t sure he can resist the temptation. Reviews of The Song of the Tearstrilogy “Hang on with both hands, because this story waits for no one.” Sandy Auden, SFX on The Fate of the Fallen. “The final payoff is fantastic. The most unflaggingly inventive storyteller we’ve seen in years.” Sydney Morning Herald onThe Destiny of the Dead ‘Unbelievably, Irvine has managed to increase the pace of his story in this third and final volume – for sheer excitement, there’s just no one like Irvine around at the moment.’ SFX on The Destiny of the Dead. ‘This precise and beautifully crafted novel blooms from its ascetic opening to a resonant and rewarding climax. Makes what’s currently available on fantasy shelves seem hackneyed and formulaic. Utterly absorbing.” Stephen Davenport, Independent Weekly “Whether you like interesting characters, good description or a well thought out world, this book is bound to impress you.” – Nicole Juliette, Dreamhosters.com "Another blockbuster fantasy series." Colin Steele, Canberra Times.

Following a twisted trail of clues that leads to a hit-and-run driver, a homeless veteran, and a park full of suspects who may hold more secrets than solutions, Cooper must hold firm to her spiritual convictions before an innocent woman faces a conviction of a more earthly nature. In the epic conclusion of the Fate of the Fallen series, the stage has been set for a revolution. After the Council's lack of reaction to the assassination of one of their own, the rebels grow bolder -- and if they truly allow supes to join their ranks, they might be able to achieve the impossible. Hope has been rekindled, and nowhere has it been stronger than with the son of the former rebellion leader, Noah Franklin. Will he and Khaz throw in for more than a night, or will they choose to isolate themselves from what might still be a futile cause?Reese's allegiance to Elias Ivers has compromised his own desires to aid the rebellion, along with his disapproval of their "take no prisoners" approach. He and his claimed humans, Ashton and Leo, have different agendas, but can they come together in a time of need?Newly-ascended Elder Elias Ivers has a target on his back -- and it's not only from sympathizers and rebels. Even those amongst his own ranks are loath to accept him, and he finds that taking control is not as easy as he'd thought. With his werewolf pet, Jace, at his side, can he show the Council what it truly is to rule?Humans have fought for a decade to regain their freedom, and now, the time has come to reclaim it. The restlessness and strife among the vampires, witches, and werewolves who rule over humanity leaves them a unique opening... if they can only figure out how to take advantage of it.

Between 1945 and 1965, the catastrophe of war--and the social and political changes it brought in its wake--had a major impact on the construction of the Soviet masculine ideal. Drawing upon a wide range of visual material, The Fate of the New Man traces the dramatic changes in the representation of the Soviet man in the postwar period. It focuses on the two identities that came to dominate such depictions in the two decades after the end of the war: the Soviet man's previous role as a soldier and his new role in the home once the war was over. In this compelling study, Claire McCallum focuses on the reconceptualization of military heroism after the war, the representation of contentious subjects such as the war-damaged body and bereavement, and postwar changes to the depiction of the Soviet man as father. McCallum shows that it was the Second World War, rather than the process of de-Stalinization, that had the greatest impact on the masculine ideal, proving that even under the constraints of Socialist Realism, the physical and emotional devastation caused by the war was too great to go unacknowledged. The Fate of the New Man makes an important contribution to Soviet masculinity studies. McCallum's research also contributes to broader debates surrounding the impact of Stalin's death on Soviet society and on the nature of the subsequent Thaw, as well as to those concerning the relationship between Soviet culture and the realities of Soviet life. This fascinating study will appeal to scholars and students of Soviet history, masculinity studies, and visual culture studies.
