The Book of Coelius, by Christopher Bradford, presents a new system of practical alchemy rooted in the Western Hermetic Tradition. Kameothic Internal Alchemy is a distillation of ceremonial, alchemical and African-American conjure magic utilizing the practical methods of Hoodoo paired with Spagyric Alchemy to create change in the external world by working upon the individual from the Outside-In. While the system has roots in antiquity, it is a new tradition begun by the author and his brothers in the Ordo Octopi Nigri Pulveri. This book is the training manual of that order. Author Christopher Bradford covers such topics as the Language of the Birds, the use of the Picatrix, and describes alchemical tools of his own making, including the Staff of Imhotep. An explanation of the Spagyric Art as well as ritual practices and an analysis of Philalethes' Font of Alchemical Truth are only some of the areas treated in depth and with the excruciating care one expects from an active practitioner of alchemy. Bradford, himself trained in the hermetic tradition, offers here an exciting new system for the practicing magician.

A study of how Livy uses religious material, and how this fits in with other aspects of his narrative. Livy's work is examined systematically, to demonstrate how his approach changes in different sections. This is shown to reflect neither the subject matter nor Livy's personal beliefs, but his narrative technique.

Livy Ab urbe condita Book XXII

Livy's Ab urbe condita Book XXII narrates Hannibal's massive defeats of the Romans at Trasimene (217 BC) and Cannae (216 BC). It is Livy's best and most dramatic book, and the one most likely to appeal to students at every level. Livy drew on the Greek historian Polybius, but transformed his drier treatment into a rhetorical masterpiece, which by a series of insistent thematic contrasts brings out the tensions between the delaying tactics of Fabius and the costly rashness of Flaminius, Minucius and Varro. A substantial and accessibly written introduction by two experienced commentators covers historical, religious, literary and linguistic matters, including the place of Book XXII in the structure of Livy's long work. A new text by Briscoe is followed by a full commentary, covering literary and historical aspects and offering frequent help with translation. The volume is suitable for undergraduates, graduate students, teachers, and scholars.

The history of Rome is essentially the history of one nation imitating another, namely Greece. The Romans invented only one genre, the satire. Roman writers borrowed their subject matter from the Greeks in all but one respect, history. Several of these Roman authors were slaves or came from slave families. It was the Greek-speaking early-freed slaves that taught the Romans to give their literature subjectivity.

De oratore is Cicero's most ambitious and original work. Written at the height of his oratorical powers in 55 BC, in the form of a literary dialogue, it goes far beyond "rhetoric" as it was taught in antiquity. It addresses the question of the skills and knowledge of the consummate orator, and pays particular attention to the hotly debated issue of the relationship between oratory and philosophy. This is the final volume of the "Leeman-Pinkster-Commentary" on "De oratore" recently dubbed "one of the great resources of modern Ciceronian scholarship". It covers the important second half of the third book, which contains Cicero's final statement on the relationship between oratory and philosophy; a discussion of the stylistic topics of word choice, prose rhythm, figures of speech, and appropriateness of style; and a discussion of oratorical delivery.
