But once on Ferenginar, Odo learns that Quark is trapped in the seamy underbelly of a criminal enterprise that could have been ripped from the pages of one of O’Brien’s novels. (FAQ). Star Trek FAQ tells the complete story of Star Trek , from the before the beginning (the books, films, and TV shows that inspired producer Gene Roddenberry to create Star Trek ) until after the end (when the show emerged as a cultural phenomenon in syndication), and including dramatic behind-the-scenes stories (e.g., Leonard Nimoy's struggle with alcoholism and actress Grace Lee Whitney's controversial firing) often omitted from "authorized" histories of the program. Along with in-depth looks at the pre- and post- Trek careers of the show's iconic leads, Star Trek FAQ includes profiles of guest stars and "redshirt" extras alike, as well as the many writers, technicians, and artisans whose efforts enabled Star Trek to take flight. The book also explores the show's unprecedented resurgence in the 1970s with chapters devoted to early Star Trek fiction, merchandising, and the short-lived animated series. Combining a wealth of fascinating information about every facet of the show's production with original analysis of Star Trek 's enduring appeal and cultural influence, Star Trek FAQ goes where no Star Trek book has gone before.

An original eNovella set in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine universe! On the space station Deep Space 9, Quark’s Public House, Café, Gaming Emporium, Holosuite Arcade, and Ferengi Embassy can’t legitimately be called an embassy until the Grand Nagus—namely, Quark’s brother Rom—dedicates it as such. Not that Quark really cares about Ferengi protocol, but a well-publicized dedication ceremony will naturally draw people to the bar. Everybody loves a good open house—free appetizers, half-price drinks, door prizes, etc.—all of which Quark can write off as Embassy expenses. It’s a win-win situation, with him on both sides of the win. There’s even a plan to display the original scroll of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition—which no one has seen for decades given that it’s been held in protective storage—and charge patrons by the minute to look at it up close. Nothing, of course, could possibly go wrong with this big plan. Absolutely nothing at all…

Business is down at Quark’s Public House, Café, Gaming Emporium, Holosuite Arcade, and Ferengi Embassy to Bajor. Way down. Lower level of hell down. The station is bustling, but residents and visitors are spending more time (and latinum) at the new Deep Space 9's park, sports fields, theater, swimming complex, and who knows what else, than they are at Quark’s establishment. All of Quark's misfortunes just could be reversed, however, when he finds out that one of the steamiest holonovels to hit the Alpha Quadrant in years is up for grabs. And he has an inroad to acquiring it before anyone else. Or does he?

This volume presents over 400 rare, behind-the-scenes images - many in full, vivid color - from the making of the second season of the original, legendary Star Trek television series (NBC, 1966 - 1969) which starred William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. All of the photographs shown in this edition come from the author's personal collection, which is over four decades in the making and consists of thousands of rare NBC publicity shots, candid still photos/negatives taken on the Original Series sets, and rare Lincoln Enterprises film clips (the unused pieces of printed footage, called the "trims" and "outtakes", that were left over after the Desilu Studios film editors assembled the desirable footage into the finished master versions of the Star Trek episodes). The unused film clips were then discarded by the studio and sold to fans by Gene Roddenberry's company while the show was still in production. Many of these rare photos were featured in black-and-white format in the Saturn award winning three book series These Are The Voyages: TOS by Marc Cushman (Jacobs/Brown Press, 2013 - 2015); and now they are displayed - the majority in color - alongside a wealth of additional imagery. The author has personally digitally restored all of the rare photos in this edition, and has paid careful attention to recreating the bold and vivid colors that were present in the original broadcasts of the episodes. So, it is believed that readers will enjoy some of the finest, historically accurate rare Star Trek photo restorations ever produced; featuring what are likely many entertaining images that they have never seen before. The rare pictures in this collection are all accompanied by informative descriptions, on occasion quite extensive, about the filming of the related scene. All told, this volume represents an entertaining and unique photographic history of the making of the second season of TOS.
