Discover the wonder of wolves from Emmy-award winning filmmakers Jim and Jamie Dutcher as they tell their story of the six years they watched, learned about, and lived with the Sawtooth wolf pack. Adventure, friendship, and family come together in this riveting memoir as two award-winning filmmakers take you through the experience of the years they spent living in the wild with a real-life wolf pack. Jim and Jamie set out to show the world that instead of fearsome beasts, wolves are social, complex, and incredible creatures that deserve our protection. Deep in the mountain wilderness of Idaho, they set up Wolf Camp, where they spent years capturing the emotional, exciting, and sometimes heartbreaking story of their pack. Meet Kamots, the fearless leader. Learn from wise Matsi. Explore the forest with shy Lakota. And watch as adorable pups grow from silly siblings to a devoted pack. See how these brave wolves overcome all odds, battling mountain lions and frigid temperatures. Most of all, discover the surprising kindness, compassion, and devotion that Jim and Jamie discovered by living with wolves.

I taught school in the small Inuit village of Kangiqsujuaq for several years. Kangiqsujuaq is located at Quebec's Ungava's eastern entrance to the Hudson Strait. It is a jewel with its surrounding lands including the newly inaugurated Pingualuit Park and its waters, so rich with life. I feel blessed to have experienced life there. To have gotten to know The People. After I left Kangiqsujuaq I stayed in touch with Yaaka Yaaka. I'd had an airplane with me, so between that and snowmobiles I had many adventures with Yaaka. Yaaka is now a ranger on the lands he has worked so hard to protect, the lands surrounding the mystical crater called Pingualuit. Yaaka is not only a great hunter and fisherman, but he also a teacher, an artist and a photographer. I include many of Yaaka's letters and photos in telling my story. I also include some photos taken by the famous Quebec photographer, Robert Frechette. Lastly I include a short story titled Pingualuit which I wrote. Enjoy!

Gilroy Shaw and his football gang The Bridge Boys caused havoc wherever they travelled to watch the Wolverhampton wanderers play. Shaw was the first person in the West Midlands to be banned by police from all matches; he featured in a BBC undercover documentary in 2002 and is currently banned from all international and domestic games. This is the true story of my great-great grandfather, Calvin Potter who ran away from home at the age of 12 from Beaver, Pennsylvania. He made it as far as the Minnesota area where he was found near death by a Sisseton Sioux hunting party. They took great pains nursing him back to health and he chose to stay with them. As a young man he was asked by his Sioux father to go back to the whites and speak for his people. An Indian uprising in 1862 stopped all normal Indian life in the state of Minnesota. All Indians were taken from the state to reservations in other places. Some chose to escape to Canada and 38 were hung for their part in the war. Devastated, Calvin moves on with his life, marries and has five children, but he never was far from his past. This is historical fiction because I do not know the everyday life of his story, only the over-all facts.

“A vivid, enchanting tale of friendship, trust, and adventure, good Tolkien-esque ingredients” (Kirkus Reviews): The final installment of The Wolf Chronicles, told from the point of view of Kaala—a young wolf facing the most perilous decision in her life. Fourteen thousand years ago in southern Europe, young wolf Kaala discovers that she alone can unite wolves and humans, and must do so for the survival of both species. In Promise of the Wolves and Secrets of the Wolves, Kaala came to understand her role. Born of a forbidden, mixed blood litter, and abandoned by her mother, Kaala struggled to earn her place in the Swift River pack. When she saved the life of a human girl, she put her hard-won acceptance at risk, and responsibility for keeping peace between wolf and humankind fell to her. She failed. Now, in Spirit of the Wolves, Kaala has one last chance. She leaves her home in the Wide Valley with her young packmates, the human girl she loves, and an obnoxious raven. Together, they travel to the land beyond the valley to find her long-lost mother and a solution to the problem of the humans, only to discover that new challenges await them. Only by calling on all of her strength and on the bonds of love with her human, raven, and wolf companions can Kaala hope to succeed. In this compelling conclusion to The Wolf Chronicles, Kaala must decide how far she is willing to go for peace…when every step she takes leads wolfkind and humankind toward war. Atmospheric, exciting, and provocative, Spirit of the Wolves is “a crackling foray into a dangerous past…Dorothy Hearst’s keen interpretations of wolf behavior, senses, and sensibilities will enchant paranormal fans and animal lovers alike” (Publishers Weekly).

The first in The Wolf Chronicles trilogy, brilliantly weaving together original research, lovable characters and a dynamic, thoroughly engaging plot, Promise of the Wolves is a historical adventure story in the tradition of Clan of the Cave Bear and Watership Down. Set 14,000 years ago in what is now Southern Europe, Promise of the Wolves is told from the point of view of Kaala, a young wolf born of a forbidden, mixed-blood litter. An outcast after her mother is exiled, Kaala struggles to earn her place in her pack. But her world is turned upside down when she rescues a human girl from drowning. Kaala and her young packmates begin hunting and playing with humans—risking expulsion from their pack and banishment from their home in the Wide Valley. When war between humans and wolves threatens, Kaala learns that she is the last in a long line of wolves charged with keeping watch over humans in order to prevent them from losing touch with nature and thus destroying the world. But to do so she must solve the great paradox of wolfkind: though wolves must always be with humans, humans cannot abide the presence of wolves, and every time the two come together, war ensues. Kaala must choose between safety for herself, her friends, and their human companions and the survival of her pack—and perhaps all of wolf and humankind.

The Wolves of Trapper's Bluff is a story of desires, sacrifices, persistency and challenges intertwined within the disharmonized tonalities of life. Moments of desperation conflict with episodes of triumph. Heart-melting emotional outpours succumb under the cold steeliness of grief. Fear-the constant sojourner-permeates throughout and love as a sublime universal bond underpins all the hopes. A soul warming "aha" triumphs at the end-as a testimony to an unbridled courage in faith.
