Through the nefarious actions of vulpine fay Reynard (to be considered a cunning bastard), aided by talking fox Danny Russell (forced into service after his mate and cub were kidnapped, so to be considered generally a pretty good canid acting under duress), Anna (daughter of imprisoned Russian oligarch), Abigail (trainee wizard – nay apprentice – to The Folly) and Detective Sergeant Guleed (Muslim ninja) have been kidnapped. While the principal reason would seem to be ransom by the blackmail of Anna’s parents, Abigail and Guleed are wanted for an entirely different purpose – they are about to find out what it feels like to be at the sharp end of a fox hunt… p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Calibri} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Calibri; min-height: 14.0px}

Detective Inspector Peter Grant was right to believe there was something off about the mysterious new drug doing the rounds at parties. Goblin girl, Lana Blanding, confirmed it to be “werelight weed”, seemingly grown by magic. That’s as much information as Lana was willing to part with for free. Clever girl, Lana – but not clever enough to know that working both sides would land her in hospital. The werelight weed is being distributed by boat along the Thames, but the main source is still unknown. What Peter does know, however, is that there is an office in Teddington which acts as a staging area for distributing the drugs. He also knows that the dealers are scared shitless of their supplier: a woman covered in face tattoos known as the Hoodette. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Calibri} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Calibri; min-height: 14.0px}

The Gunpowder Epic is one of three planned publications on military technology within Dr Needham's immense undertaking. The discovery of gunpowder in China by the 9th century AD was followed by its rapid applications. It is now clear that the whole development from bombs and grenades to the invention of the metal-barrel hand gun took place in the Chinese culture area before Europeans had any knowledge of the mixture itself. Uses in civil engineering and mechanical engineering were equally important, before the knowledge of gunpowder spread to Europe in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Dr Needham's new work continues to demonstrate the major importance of Chinese science and technology to world history and maintains the tradition of one of the great scholarly works of the twentieth century.
