On behalf of the Program Committee, it is our pleasure to present the p- ceedings of the 11th International Symposium on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID 2008), which took place in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA on September 15–17. The symposium brought together leading researchers and practitioners from academia, government and industry to discuss intrusion detection research and practice. There were six main sessions presenting full-?edged research papers (rootkit prevention, malware detection and prevention, high performance - trusion and evasion, web application testing and evasion, alert correlation and worm detection, and anomaly detection and network tra?c analysis), a session ofpostersonemergingresearchareasandcasestudies, andtwopaneldiscussions (“Government Investments: Successes, Failures and the Future” and “Life after Antivirus - What Does the Future Hold?”). The RAID 2008 Program Committee received 80 paper submissions from all over the world. All submissions were carefully reviewed by at least three independent reviewers on the basis of space, topic, technical assessment, and overallbalance.FinalselectiontookplaceattheProgramCommitteemeetingon May 23rd in Cambridge, MA. Twenty papers were selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings, and four papers were recommended for resubmission as poster presentations. As a new feature this year, the symposium accepted submissions for poster presentations, whichhavebeen publishedas extendedabstracts,reportingear- stageresearch,demonstrationofapplications,orcasestudies.Thirty-nineposters were submitted for a numerical review by an independent, three-person s- committee of the Program Committee based on novelty, description, and ev- uation. The subcommittee chose to recommend the acceptance of 16 of these posters for presentation and publication.

On behalf of the program committee, it is our pleasure to present to you the proceedings of the fourth Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection Symposium. The RAID 2001program committee received 55 paper submissions from 13 countries. All submissions were carefully reviewed by several members of the program committee on the criteria of scienti?c novelty, importance to the ?eld, and technical quality. Final selection took place at a meeting held on May 16-17 in Oakland, California. Twelve papers were selected for presentation and pub- cation in the conference proceedings. In addition, nine papers, presenting work in progress, were selected for presentation. The program included both fundamental research and practical issues: l- ging and IDS integration, attack modeling, anomaly detection, speci?cati- based IDS, IDS assessment, IDS cooperation, intrusion tolerance, and legal - pects. RAID 2001also hosted two panels, one on “The Present and Future of IDS Testing Methodologies,” a subject of major concern for all IDS users and de- gners, and one on “Intrusion Tolerance,” an emerging research area of increasing importance. Dr. Bill Hancock, Senior Vice President and Chief Security O?cer of Exodus Communications, Inc., delivered a keynote speech “Real world intrusion det- tion or how not to become a deer in the headlights of an attacker’s car on the information superhighway”. The slides presented by the authors, the 9 papers which are not in the p- ceedings, and the slides presented by the panelists are available on the website of the RAID symposium series, http://www.raid-symposium.org/.

Since 1998, RAID has established its reputation as the main event in research on intrusion detection, both in Europe and the United States. Every year, RAID gathers researchers, security vendors and security practitioners to listen to the most recent research results in the area as well as experiments and deployment issues. This year, RAID has grown one step further to establish itself as a well-known event in the security community, with the publication of hardcopy proceedings. RAID 2000 received 26 paper submissions from 10 countries and 3 continents. The program committee selected 14 papers for publication and examined 6 of them for presentation. In addition RAID 2000 received 30 extended abstracts proposals; 15 of these extended abstracts were accepted for presentation. - tended abstracts are available on the website of the RAID symposium series, http://www.raid-symposium.org/. We would like to thank the technical p- gram committee for the help we received in reviewing the papers, as well as all the authors for their participation and submissions, even for those rejected. As in previous RAID symposiums, the program alternates between fun- mental research issues, such as newtechnologies for intrusion detection, and more practical issues linked to the deployment and operation of intrusion det- tion systems in a real environment. Five sessions have been devoted to intrusion detection technology, including modeling, data mining and advanced techniques.

All submissions were carefully reviewed by independent - viewers on the basis of space, topic, technical assessment, and overall balance. The ?nal selection took place at the Program Committee meeting on May 21 in Oakland, California. In all, 17 papers were selected for presentation and p- lication in the conference proceedings. As a continued feature, the symposium accepted submissions for poster presentations which have been published as - tended abstracts, reporting early-stage research, demonstration of applications, or case studies. Thirty posters were submitted for a numerical review by an independent, three-person sub-committee of the Program Committee based on novelty, description, and evaluation. The sub-committee recommended the - ceptance of 16 of these posters for presentation and publication. The success of RAID 2009 depended on the joint e?ort of many people.

On behalf of the Program Committee, it is our pleasure to present the proce- ings of the 9th Symposium on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID 2006), which took place in Hamburg, Germany, on September 20-22, 2006. Aseveryyearsince1998,thesymposiumbroughttogetherleadingresearchers and practitioners from academia, government and industry to discuss intrusion detection research and practice. We had sessions on anomaly and speci'cati- based detection, network-based intrusion detection, attacks against intrusion detection systems, IDS evaluation and malware analysis. The RAID 2005 Program Committee received 93 paper submissions from all over the world, including 15 papers submitted as "Big Challenge, Big Idea" papers. All the submissions were carefully reviewed by several members of the ProgramCommittee and evaluated on the basis of scienti'c novelty, importance to the ?eld, and technical quality. Final selection took place at the Program Committee meeting held on June 1st and 2nd in Zur ̈ ich, Switzerland. Sixteen papers were selected for presentation and publication in the conference p- ceedings, placing RAID among the most competitive conferences in the area of computer security. Thisyearweannounced"BigChallenge,BigIdea"asatheme.Weencouraged submissions in a separate category, looking for papers that described fundam- tal problems that have not yet been tackled by intrusion detection research, or bold, risky or controversial ideas for potential research or solutions.

Computer and Information Technology (CIT) are now involved in governmental, industrial, and business domains more than ever. Thus, it is important for CIT personnel to continue academic research to improve technology and its adoption to modern applications. The up-to-date research and technologies must be distributed to researchers and CIT community continuously to aid future development. The 10th International Conference on Computing and Information Technology (IC 2 IT2014) organized by King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and partners provides an exchange of the state of the art and future developments in the two key areas of this process: Computer Networking and Data Mining. Behind the background of the foundation of ASEAN, it becomes clear that efficient languages, business principles and communication methods need to be adapted, unified and especially optimized to gain a maximum benefit to the users and customers of future IT systems.
