Ten Proofs for the Existence of God is an elegant and thoughtful disposition of the proofs of God’s existence found in the Holy Quran. From the principle that the loved ones of God always meet with success to the moral awareness of human beings to the fine-tuning of the universe, Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad(ra), the second successor of the Promised Messiah(as), sets forth ten Quranic arguments to show with compelling force that the existence of God can be established with full certainty and in a manner which is beyond refute.

Infinity and the Proofs for the Existence of God

This book is more than just a set of logical proofs. It shows us who and what God is, and explains how our universe exploded into existence in the Big Bang, some 13.799 billion years ago, in such a way that all other Being in the universe derives its existence and nature -- and its capacities for growth, power, moral character, change, and novelty -- from God as the Ground of Being. This is a book for people who are interested in philosophy. It begins with a discussion of some of the fallacies into which the concept of infinity has led careless thinkers over the centuries. In particular, Chesnut demonstrates how often the modern defenses of atheism have been based on what are no more than pseudo-infinite regresses. This includes in particular self-delusive attempts to get rid of God by constructing what would be no more than imaginary universe-sized perpetual motion machines. The last half of the book then has as its central focus the set of Five Proofs for the Existence of God formulated by the great medieval thinker St. Thomas Aquinas, where Chesnut begins by showing how each of the proofs was interpreted in the middle ages. But the development of modern science requires that the Five Proofs be reworked for today, so he shows, for example, how the Proof from Motion can be reworded as an Argument from Energy, subject to the laws of thermodynamics, and how the Proof from Gradations in Truth and Value forces us to decide whether we will accept that at least some moral values are real, or instead will become what modern psychologists call psychopaths. This present book, combined with the work Chesnut authored nine years ago -- God and Spirituality: Philosophical Essays -- sets out an architectonic philosophical system for the twenty-first century, grounded on one side in the classics of the ancient Greco-Roman world and the medieval period, but on the other hand taking seriously the revolutionary changes in western thought produced by the development of twentieth-century science, including relativity, quantum theory, the uncertainty principle, and Gödel's proof.

Five Proofs of the Existence of GodÊprovides a detailed, updated exposition and defense of five of the historically most important (but in recent years largely neglected) philosophical proofs of God's existence: the Aristotelian proof, the Neo-Platonic proof, the Augustinian proof, the Thomistic proof, and the Rationalist proof. Ê This book also offers a detailed treatment of each of the key divine attributes -- unity, simplicity, eternity, omnipotence, omniscience, perfect goodness, and so forth -- showing that they must be possessed by the God whose existence is demonstrated by the proofs.Ê Finally, it answers at length all of the objections that have been leveled against these proofs. Ê This book offers as ambitious and complete a defense of traditional natural theology as is currently in print.Ê Its aim is to vindicate the view of the greatest philosophers of the past -- thinkers like Aristotle, Plotinus, Augustine, Aquinas, Leibniz, and many others -- that the existence of God can be established with certainty by way of purely rational arguments.Ê It thereby serves as a refutation both of atheism and of the fideism which gives aid and comfort to atheism. Responding to contemporary popular atheism, Robert J. Spitzer's New Proofs for the Existence of God examines the considerable evidence for God and creation that has come to light from physics and philosophy during the last forty years. An expert in diverse areas, including theology, physics, metaphysics, and ethics, Spitzer offers in this text the most contemporary, complete, and integrated approach to rational theism currently available. "Skepticism about the possibility of proving the existence of God often relies on data from modern science. In this splendid new book Father Robert Spitzer explores the implications of the latest discoveries in big bang cosmology, string theory, quantum physics, and the ontology of time to craft a series of convincing philosophical arguments. To paraphrase a popular commercial, this is not your father's old 'natural theology' textbook ù it's a gripping and compelling account of the best current arguments for theism."ùJoseph W. Koterski, S.J., Foidham University "A most original and insightful case for the existence of God.... Fr. Spitzer's new proofs pose a serious and compelling challenge to the unconscious hegemony of naturalism in the worlds of both philosophy and the sciences."ùFrancis J. Beckwith, Baylor University "Rare is the theologian who keeps abreast of the latest developments in fundamental physics, and even rarer the one who can discuss them with the theological and philosophical sophistication that Fr. Spitzer displays in this book. A challenging and original work."ùStephen M. Barr, University of Delaware, author of Modern Physics and Ancient Faith

Of the works by Franz Brentano (1838-1917) which have appeared in thus far, perhaps none is better suited to convey a clear idea of the English spirit of the man that this volume of his lectures on proving the existence of God. In order to understand his metaphysics, it would he better to read The Theory of Categories; in order to master the finer points of his psychology, it would be better to read Psychology From an Empirical Standpoint; in order to appreciate his ethical theory, it would be better to read The Origin of Our Knowledge of Right and Wrong or, for a more thorough treatment, The Foundation and Construction of Ethics. But in order to see what it was that gave Brentano the enthusiasm and dedication to do all that work and much more besides, it is necessary to find out what Brentano believed the philosophical enterprise itself to be; and this comes forth most vividly when he bends his philosophical efforts to the subject he considered most important of all, namely, natural theology. For, like Socrates, Brentano brought a kind of religious fervor to his philosophy precisely because he saw it as dealing much better than religion does with the matters that are closest to our hearts.

A Natural Proof for the Existence of God as Supernatural

In this booklet, I will first argue that God is supernatural, and then prove that, given that God is supernatural, God exists. Of course, we normally assume that, just because God is supernatural, we cannot prove God's existence. But we can. In fact, we can prove the existence of God based on the very fact that God is supernatural. And we can do so by natural means (as opposed to supernatural means, e.g., divine revelation). This results in the most solid proof because it does not derive God's existence from natural phenomena (e.g., the cosmos) or from concepts of God (e.g., the greatest that can be conceived), but directly from the fact that God is supernatural. The classical arguments for the existence of God (i.e., cosmological, teleological, and ontological arguments) cannot do this. In fact, they cannot even accommodate a God that is supernatural. So, given that God is supernatural, they cannot really argue for God at all. In the process, I will also prove that, given that God is supernatural, there cannot be more than one God. And I will explain the beauty of God as supernatural: That only a supernatural God truly qualifies as God. That only a supernatural God is truly infinite, supreme, greater-than-the-greatest. That only a supernatural God is truly perfect, i.e., complete and flawless, and that, if we try to turn God into something more than just supernatural, we thereby actually reduce God, turn God into just another natural thing, the worship of which is indeed idolatry. Finally, I cannot but hope that this may help you to attain salvation, divine union, enlightenment, liberation, wisdom, or whatever you call that which sets you free. Free from sin and the consequences of sin, from separation, from craving and ignorance and the pain it causes, from the cycle of birth and death and its suffering, or, to put it in somewhat plainer terms, from the stress that comes from being deceived by appearances.

Kant on Proofs for the Existence of God

This volume provides a highly needed, comprehensive analysis of Kant's views on proofs for God's existence and explains the radical turns of Kant's accounts. In the Theory of Heavens (1755), Kant intended to harmonize the Newtonian laws of motion with a physicotheological argument for the existence of God. But only a few years later, in the Ground of Proof essay (1763), Kant defended an ontological ('possibility' or 'modal') argument on the basis of its logical exactitude. Nevertheless he continued to praise the physicotheological argument. In the first Critique (1781/7), Kant replaced the traditional constitutive proofs with regulative theoretical and practical arguments. He continued to defend a moral argument in the second Critique (1788). But in the third Critique (1790), Kant reintroduced a physicotheological besides an ethicotheological argument in order to unify the critical system of philosophy. Kant developed further moral arguments in the Theodicy essay (1791) and the Religion (1793/4), and still continued to discuss proofs for God's existence in the OP (1796-1804). This volume speaks to Kant specialists in the fields of philosophy and theology, but can be used also as an introduction for non-academic readers.

SCIENTIFIC THEORY OF GOD Today's world is filled with doubt or even total disbelief that God really exists. Scientists say there is no scientific evidence of a Creator, and many of us are trying to cope with what we think is a meaningless existence. We have learned to trust science, but we don't want this to be all there is, so we find hope in our religious faith. However, religion is the worship of God-not scientific proof of God-so we are caught between two very conflicting worldviews... ...and our doubts about God won't go away. What isn't realized is that-contrary to what we are taught in school-science actually does prove God's existence. Scientific Theory of God breaks down the walls between science and faith and reveals an understanding of God based on scientific proof. For the most part, the twenty-first century scientific community bases their foundation upon their claim that the universe came from nothing and that it mysteriously-and instantly-came into existence. This process is less formally known as the Big Bang theory. Most mainstream scientists would have you believe that you are an accident of nature lost in time and place without help and...without hope-purposeless! Scientific Theory of God throws off the scientific veil of confusion by researching some of the greatest minds in physics, including the theories of Sir Issac Newton, to uncover the truth: You are not an accident. You are not insignificant. You have an ultimate purpose designed just for you. Take an impactful and revolutionary look at the many convincing proofs of God's existence. Now, it is time to discover that each person is at the center of a divine heart-a dynamic and personable God. A higher Being who has not only designed the universe, but also oversees a specific reality created for each individual. Scientific Theory of God delves into the difficult questions that have been pondered by mankind for centuries regarding the universe, humanity's purpose, and God's existence. Learn how the answer has been under scientist's noses for hundreds of years, as this work delivers the scientific proofs to revolutionize the concepts of the universe, man's relationship to God, and his journeys through this life and into the next. This book has the power to change your life.

Coming late in his career, these lectures give us the great philosopher's final and most seasoned thinking on a topic of obvious significance to him, that of the reality status of God and ways of knowing God.

Does God Exist Second Edition

In this engaging introductory dialogue, Todd Moody maps the spectrum of philosophical arguments and counterarguments for the existence of God. Structuring colloquial conversations along classical lines, he presents a lively and accessible discussion of issues that are central to both theist and atheist thinking, including the burden of proof, the first cause, a necessary being, the natural order, suffering, miracles, experience as knowledge, and rationality without proof. The second edition is a significant and comprehensive revision. Moody broadens and deepens the conversation by addressing additional arguments, such as the problem of animal suffering, the moral argument, intelligent design, and human exceptionalism. The discussion of the cosmological argument is updated to reflect recent work on the Kalam Cosmological Argument. A short preface explains the scope of the work and the purpose of the dialogue form. Suggested further readings of contemporary and classical sources are also included.

A Catholic Scientist Proves God Exists

Challenging today’s accepted “wisdom,” Catholic scientist Gerard Verschuuren, Ph.D., here demonstrates that the question of whether God exists is not one science can answer. Indeed, that would be like expecting a microscope to reveal the square root of sixteen! Verschuuren begins by explaining the five famous medieval proofs for the existence of God — based on reason alone — that have survived despite nearly a thousand years of efforts to refute them. With his wise help, you’ll come to see that just as reason gives us access to the existence of numbers, so it is reason that gives us access to the existence of God. In fact, when we use our reason to investigate the existence of God, we encounter proofs that are more powerful, by far, than any that science could ever provide. Yes, Verschuuren is a Catholic; but he’s also a long-standing scientist, schooled in using reason alone to draw forth from evidence the proofs to which it necessarily leads. Verschuuren’s stunning proofs for God’s existence — based on evidence alone — will open your eyes, stir your heart and, more importantly, deepen your faith in the wondrous Creator of Heaven and earth!
