The overall aim of this book is to present default values for the micro-organisms elimination or inactivation credit of universally used processes in water treatment (MEC or MIC). The growing interest in Quantitative Microbial Risk assessment (QMRA) for safe drinking water requires such data. These MEC or MIC values have been calculated from research on elimination of viruses, bacteria and bacterial spores and protozoa (oo)cysts (Cryptosporidium and Giardia) by these treatment processes published in the international literature. The data have been selected on the base of different quality criteria related to information on applied experimental conditions and used methods. Furthermore the studies have been categorized on base of their similarities with 'real world' conditions (selected micro-organisms, scale and conditions of the tested processes).

On a spring day, almost two billion children disappear from the face of the earth while natural disasters rock the globe. Of the few who remain, most are ravaged with a plague that turns them into mindless, murderous beings. The Sleepers grow in numbers, massing together. They are deadly and more frightening–and they are starting to plan. Not only do the survivors have to face the deadly force beyond their fence–an even deadlier force lurks among them. As the battle begins, a new foe becomes a friend and a friend is now the enemy.

Overdose and poisoning are one of the most frequent acute medical presentations seen in emergency departments, and high dependency and intensive care facilities. The Oxford Desk Reference: Toxicology provides an authoritative guide for the management of patients with poisoning. Each chapter includes key clinical features and potential treatment options to help physicians to assess the potential severity of the poisoned patient and provide the optimum clinical care. A reader-friendly layout ensures that information is easy to find and assimilate, and topics are self-contained to aid quick diagnosis.
