From PEN Award–winning author Carol Lynch Williams comes a “haunting read” (Booklist) in this coming-of-age tale about a girl who can talk to the dead—even if she would rather not. Evie Messenger knows that her family is different from other families. But it isn’t until her fifteenth birthday that the Messenger gift is revealed to her. Evie has the family’s gift—a special power. Soon she realizes she is able to see and talk to the dead—ghosts—often with no idea who the person was. Or as Evie says: “I see Dead People. It’s a Messenger gift.” That doesn’t necessarily mean she wants the Messenger gift. So Evie tries to ignore it but soon she finds she cannot. Can Evie find a way to live her life without letting her power take over? And what if the dead person is someone close to Evie’s family?

Chris doesn't take any notice when a piece of glass angel smashes in front of him - not even when a stranger tells him it's a warning. Then he and his girlfriend are trapped on the moors and strange things start to happen. Who is the mysterious priest who rescues them and who, or what, is the third angel? Has Chris not taken his warning seriously enough? This great series features popular stories from the 'Shades' series that have been reduced in length and complexity to provide a gripping, achievable read for less able or reluctant readers.

mRNA (messenger RNA) is the mediating template between DNA and proteins. The information from a particular gene is transferred from a strand of DNA by the construction of a complementary strand of RNA through a process known as transcription. Next three nucleotide segments of RNA, called tRNA (transfer RNA), which are attached to specific amino acids, match up with the template strand of mRNA to order the amino acids correctly. These amino acids are then bonded together to form a protein. This process called translation, occurs in the ribosome, which is composed of proteins and the third kind of RNA, rRNA (ribosomal RNA). This book presents new research in the field.

A twisted take on the battle of good and evil from Michael Grant, the dark genius of YA Fiction. When Mara wakes up lying in a field of dead grass and shrouded by a heavy mist, she can remember nothing but her name. At first she thinks she is dead. But then she meets him: young, good-looking but pale almost to translucence and dressed all in black. He is the Messenger of Fear. But what does he want with her? And what is the significance of the dead girl in the coffin? The Messenger sees the darkness in young hearts, and the damage it inflicts upon the world. If the wicked go unpunished, he offers them a game. Win, and they can go free. Lose, and they will live out their greatest fear. But why has Mara been chosen to accompany the Messenger and what secrets are lurking in her memories that are just out of reach? Messenger of Fear is a fantastic allegory of our times in the spirit of The Hunger Games or Divergent. It is about the pain of adolescence, teen suicide, and guilt. It is the kind of gothic horror that could only have come from the pen of Michael Grant: the man who gave us GONE. Don’t miss the heart-stopping sequel The Tattooed Heart. Michael Grant has lived an exciting, fast-paced life. He moved in with his wife Katherine Applegate after only 24 hours. He has co-authored over 160 books but promises that everything he writes is like nothing you’ve ever read before! Michael Grant is also the author of the GONE Series: Gone, Plague, Light, Hunger, Lies, Fear, and the BZRK trilogy:BZRK, BZRK Reloaded, BZRK Apocalypse.

This is a book about the importance of mentors in the lives of the young. But rather than developing the theme of mentoring theoretically, Douglas John Hall demonstrates its significance quite personally, autobiographically. In his twentieth year and hoping to study music professionally, Hall met a young minister whose "different" Christianity both surprised and intrigued him. In the end, this friendship altered the course of his life. The book traces the story of this friendship of more than half a century, and the impact of the times upon the lives of its two principal figures.
