The concepts of liberty and responsibility have been dealt with extensively from the perspectives of economics, political theory, philosophy, and religion. But a special kind of insight into man’s exercise of liberty and acceptance of responsibility is possible through the device of literature. Literature allows one to consider, reflect on, and attempt to understand the meaning of such abstractions as liberty and responsibility by presenting their dramatic unfolding. This way of approaching classic texts offers a way to connect the world of absolute and particulars and to appreciate how they meet and interact in the interiority of human existence. In this collection of essays, prominent scholars explore the themes of liberty and responsibility as they are intertwined in the great works of Twain, Dostoevsky, James, Warren, Johnson, Shakespeare, and others.

Within the pages of this book is the story of sculptor Michael Naranjo, and if a picture is worth a thousand words, the reader will see he has quite a story to tell. In the 164 images portrayed lies the story of a man who did what he was told he couldn't do: succeed in his career as a sculptor after being blinded by a grenade explosion while serving in the US Army in Vietnam, in 1968. The book reveals the development of a compelling style and the growth of Naranjo's career as an artist - a lifetime of work in bronze. His complete collection of limited edition bronzes, created from 1970 through 2010 are represented here. Scattered throughout the book are short vignettes wherein Naranjo tells stories in his own words touching on many different aspects of his life and his art and the growth of his career to become one of the leading sculptors in America today.

Francisca López began one day to trace the tracks of the relocated photographs of Bandi Binder. He collected an infinity of cards from which he used to display his photos, cartons in which marks of the adhered were strongly printed. And he began to photograph them "These series consists of photographs of the front and back sides of cardboard backing sheets Bandi Binder used to exhibit his photographs. The first image alone is a fogged sheet of black and white fiber paper. The series was outlined in 2012; photographed in 2014 and 2016 using a medium-format digital camera and retouched and edited in 2017 and 2018. The original backing sheets measure 33 x 40 cm and 41 x 51 cm; the photographs are printed in cotton paper, 26 x 32.5 cm and 27 x 32.5 cm."--Page 77.

Sometimes, the work of God's unseen hand is hard to recognize. At other times, it is so apparent, there is no way to ignore Divine intervention. For two girls, born 11 months apart in a small Southern town, this could not be more true. Forty plus years ago, God placed them in each other's lives, along with a foundation for a friendship that would later defy time, distance, and the vagaries of life. More than forty years after their families took them in separate directions, they "refound" each other, reconnected, and renewed a friendship that felt as if it were always there- and it had been...in their hearts. Today, God has brought these women full circle, only children who rediscovered the "sister" each was missing. Now, one a writer/photographer, the other a writer, they share, through pictures and words, the insights God has given them on life, love, the many shapes of family, the strength and meaning of friendship, and the infinite unseen ways God works to place each of us exactly where we should be, right at the time we should be there, with those who truly love us.

Inner Visions, is an astonishing book about the reality of inner-city neighborhoods where it seems all hope and vision for a better future has been abandoned. Jan Thrope takes the reader on a tour through the most poverty stricken areas of Cleveland, Ohio, to show the despair and how some of the residents are pulling together to make positive changes with hard work and innovative thinking. This book is a testament to the human spirit and that despite the situations some people have been born into, they still want better for themselves and their community.
