You think I'm a monster, but my choices, as ruthless as they seem, are justified. Unfortunately, Lillian, ruthless ruler of the 13 Cities, is not willing to let Lily go that easily. If she can't persuade Lily to return to her world, she'll have to find a way to make her come back. Picking up right where Trial By Fire left off, Firewalker is another sexy, fast-paced, heartbreaking thrill ride from internationally bestselling author Josephine Angelini!

"It's terrific! I love your wise-cracking hero, who finds himself thrust into these bizarre circumstances with no real guide. And I love the set-up of the supernatural world and these well-defined characters. It's got a strong cinematic feel and it creates tremendous atmosphere. In short, you've done some terrific world building here that's highly imaginative and peopled with appealing, interesting characters we can care about." Editor "I thought it was intriguing and a decent read. The book has like 22 5-star reviews on Goodreads right now, so it must be doing something right." HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for you faith in His excellent word! What more can he say than to you he hath said, To you who for refuge to Jesus hath fled? Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed; For I am thy God and will still give thee aid; I’ll strengthen thee, help thee and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand. When through the deep waters I cause thee to go, Thy rivers of sorrow will not overflow; For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless, And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress. When through fiery trials thy pathway will lie; My grace all sufficient, shall be they supply; The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, I will not dessert to his foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!

For centuries, Fire Walkers have been locked away in temples for the sin of being born with fire magic in their veins. At last, they are free. But when a rogue priest uses his fire magic to murder a king and set the nation on a path to war, the ruthless Prince Ravel sees his oppor-tunity to seize the throne and rid his kingdom of Fire Walkers forever.Mina Hawker, the famed Sand Dancer who disguised herself as a man to win freedom for the Fire Walkers, is ordered to personally lead her people to the slaughter on the frontlines of war. Instead, she races across the kingdom to prove her Fire Walkers are innocent. When she discovers a way to prevent war, it just might bring an end to the oppression of Fire Walkers everywhere. But the cost is the end of all fire magic. Now, Mina must decide how much of her soul-and the soul of her people-is too much to sacrifice to stop the violence. As the second book in the Sand Dancer series, FIRE WALKER builds on the themes of the first novel to create a powerfully relevant allegory for the oppression of minorities who are told to stop being different if they want to be accepted-and wraps it up in a thrilling Y.A. fantasy adventure.

"In 2009, William Kentridge and Gerhard Marx were commissioned to make a public sculpture for the City of Johannesburg to be installed in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The sculpture is based on a drawing by Kentridge of a woman street vendor - known colloquially as a fire walker - carrying a burning brazier on her head. The eleven-metre-high striding figure would take her place at the foot of the Queen Elizabeth Bridge on a site formerly used by informal traders and taxi washers. Eschewing the bronze monumentalism of traditional public sculpture, Kentridge and Marx devised a figure made up of steel plates that resolves into a coherent image from one vantage point only. A pedestrian passing the sculpture has only a momentary view of the striding woman before the sculpture 'fragments' into its black and white parts. Fire Walker represents not a grand public office-bearer, but an ordinary citizen whose survival depends on her ability to negotiate often-contested urban terrain. began as a project to document the making of Fire Walker has evolved, in this book, into a number of conversations about - and meditations on - the meaning of public art. Essays by Mark Gevisser, Mpho Matsipa, Alexandra Dodd, and Jonathan Cane and Zen Marie prise open critical questions about public space in Johannesburg; interviews with the various collaborators on the sculpture reveal the complexities and challenges of creating such a work; and the extraordinary images of the construction of the sculpture, alongside two photo essays on street vendors and old city monuments, suggest the metaphorical power of Fire Walker as well as the fragile hold of street vendors over their small share of city space."--Publisher's description.

I Hated Hated Hated This Movie

Roger Ebert awards at least two out of four stars to most of the more than 150 movies he reviews each year. But when the noted film critic does pan a movie, the result is a humorous, scathing critique far more entertaining than the movie itself. I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie is a collection of more than 200 of Ebert's most biting and entertaining reviews of films receiving a mere star or less from the only film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize. Ebert has no patience for these atrocious movies and minces no words in skewering the offenders. Witness: Armageddon * (1998) --The movie is an assault on the eyes, the ears, the brain, common sense, and the human desire to be entertained. No matter what they're charging to get in, it's worth more to get out. The Beverly Hillbillies* (1993)--Imagine the dumbest half-hour sitcom you've ever seen, spin it out to ninety-three minutes by making it even more thin and shallow, and you have this movie. It's appalling. North no stars (1994)--I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it. Police Academy no stars (1984)--It's so bad, maybe you should pool your money and draw straws and send one of the guys off to rent it so that in the future, whenever you think you're sitting through a bad comedy, he could shake his head, chuckle tolerantly, and explain that you don't know what bad is. Dear God * (1996)--Dear God is the kind of movie where you walk out repeating the title, but not with a smile. The movies reviewed within I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie are motion pictures you'll want to distance yourself from, but Roger Ebert's creative and comical musings on those films make for a book no movie fan should miss.
