Euro-Par – the European Conference on Parallel Computing – is an international conference series dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of parallel computing. The major themes can be divided into the broad categories of hardware, software, algorithms, and applications for parallel computing. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum within which to promote the dev- opment of parallel computing both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. This is particularlyimportant at a time when parallel computing is - dergoing strong and sustained development and experiencing real industrial take up. The main audience for and participants of Euro-Par are seen as researchers in academic departments, government laboratories, and industrial organisations. Euro-Par’s objective is to become the primarychoice of such professionals for the presentation of new results in their speci?c areas. Euro-Par is also interested in applications that demonstrate the e?ectiveness of the main Euro-Par themes. Euro-Par now has its own Internet domain with a permanent Web site where the historyof the conference series is described: http://www. euro-par. org. The Euro-Par conference series is sponsored bythe Association of Computer Machineryand the International Federation of Information Processing.

Euro-Par’99 The format of Euro-Par’99follows that of the past four conferences and consists of a number of topics eachindividually monitored by a committee of four. There were originally 23 topics for this year’s conference. The call for papers attracted 343 submissions of which 188 were accepted. Of the papers accepted, 4 were judged as distinguished, 111 as regular and 73 as short papers.

Euro-ParConferenceSeries The European Conference on Parallel Computing (Euro-Par) is an international conference series dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. The major themes fall into the categories of hardware, software, algorithms, and applications. This year, new and interesting topicswereintroduced,likePeer-to-PeerComputing,DistributedMultimedia- stems, and Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing. For the ?rst time, we organized a Demo Session showing many challenging applications. The general objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum promoting the de- lopment of parallel and distributed computing both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontiers of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. The industrial importance of parallel and dist- buted computing is supported this year by a special Industrial Session as well as a vendors’ exhibition. This is particularly important as currently parallel and distributed computing is evolving into a globally important technology; the b- zword Grid Computing clearly expresses this move. In addition, the trend to a - bile world is clearly visible in this year’s Euro-Par. Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of parallel computing. The major themes can be - vided into the broad categories of theory, high-performance, cluster and grid, and distributed and mobile computing. These four categories comprise 14 topics that focus on particular issues of the mentioned categories. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum within which to promote the dev- opment of parallel computing both as an industrial technique and an academic dis- pline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of practice. The main audience for and participants in Euro-Par are seen as researchers in academic departments, government laboratories and industrial organizations. Previous Euro-Par conferences took place in Stockholm, Lyon, Passau, Southa- ton, Tolouse, Munich, Manchester, Padderborn, Klagenfurt, Pisa, Lisbon, Dresden and Rennes. Next year the conference will take place in Delft. Euro-Par 2008 was the 14th conference in the Euro-Par series. It was jointly - organized by the Computer Architecture and Operating Systems Department of the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and the University Institute for Intelligent S- tems and Numerical Applications in Engineering of the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the Tafira Campus of Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
