Optimal well-being is obtained through a commitment to the “holy trinity” of healthy living—eating better, moving better, sleeping better. Together these lead to peak physical performance. With tremendous insight into the physiology of the human body and the reasons mankind has evolved the way it has, The Ripple Effect exposes exercise and diet myths, inspiring you and leading you on a clear path to achieving a health and fitness transformation. With small—and very achievable—daily changes in your life, you'll see the incredible effects of aggregate gains that professional athletes know. You'll learn how: Eating broccoli provides the body with more protein per calorie than eating steak Using one teaspoon less of sugar per day would help you lose four pounds of fat per year Walking for fifteen minutes per day decreases your risk of cancer by fifty per cent Playing games like tennis can prevent Alzheimer’s disease Losing ninety minutes of sleep reduces daytime alertness by nearly a third Replacing an hour of television with an hour of sleep could help you lose over fourteen pounds in a year And much more.

As a minister, counselor, and teacher, Mary Manin Morrissey has inspired tens of thousands of people to reach higher in life than they ever believed possible. Her message is revolutionary: God has designed each one of us for greatness. And her warmth, candor, and conviction bring this message alive in the heart and mind of everyone who hears her. As children we instinctively know that we are destined to live great lives. As adults we recognize that our true greatness is expressed in our relationships: in deep, fulfilling partnership, vibrant marriage, abiding closeness with children, parents, and friends. Yet fostering such bonds--even with those we cherish most--can be one of the greatest challenges we will ever face. In No Less Than Greatness Mary affirms that love is our birthright--and learning to love well is life’s greatest lesson. She shows that we are not alone in our search. When we learn to ask for and listen to divine guidance, we access a different kind of wisdom, a new kind of hope. Beginning with her own surprising story, Mary shows how ordinary, struggling, or even estranged relationships are a curriculum for learning love, and how our relationships--and we ourselves--can be transformed. Within these pages Mary provides a step-by-step guide to the spiritual principles that bring love into our lives. Her powerful affirmations, meditations, and exercises are designed to help you: • reveal your true self — your most precious gift to others • consciously design the relationships you most want • open yourself to partnering with God • discover the power of unreasonable giving • achieve intimacy by speaking from your heart • heal the hurt in difficult relationships • awaken your love through simple daily acts Let Mary Manin Morrissey show you that you already have what it takes to create what you desire most--and how, with God’s help, even imperfect relationships can lead to perfect love. There are 2 parts to the book. The first section covers some of the important events that took place around the world, from the early part of the 19th century, up to the years following World War II. It features the 2 men that I have always admired, both of whom planned and fought against tyranny. Neither of these men actually used weapons in the Second World War, but they did what they had to do, to preserve our freedom. The 2 men are Sir Winston Churchill and my father, both of whom had army careers, dad's lasting for 31 years. Churchill's was a much shorter span, before he moved into Politics. The second part of the book gives details of my travels around the world to 42 countries. To do this, I fl ew a total of 964,995 miles, taking 1430 fl ights on 91 different types of aircraft. In addition I have traveled far more than a million miles by car. There were many times that I got very close to having my life cut short, but somehow I managed to survive, as I am still here at age 79. It was all very interesting to me and I hope that I have been able to convey some of this excitement in what I have written.

We Americans may reside in the greatest nation on earth, but our lifestyle is killing us. Onequarter of us still smoke, two-thirds of us are fat, three-quarters of us don't exercise, and stress and depression are ubiquitous. We wolf down oversize portions of fast food in minutes and boast of not having taken a vacation in years. We get misinformation like "olive oil is healthy" but then get fatter because drizzling three tablespoons of oil on a salad adds as many calories as two scoops of premium ice cream. Despite all our advances in drugs and surgery, obesity and the diseases it causes have shortened life expectancy; this is the first time in history that children can expect to die younger than their parents. The Pritikin Program was the first comprehensive lifestyle program in America, and after fifty years on the cutting edge of lifestyle science, it is still the longest-running, most successful program for reversing many of modern society's diseases, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. What sets Pritikin apart from the myriad of other diets is that its program is based on real science. Pritikin doesn't make random claims or base advice on half-truths or fads; Pritikin's effectiveness has been proven and documented in more than 110 scientific studies. You've picked up this book because you want to change your lifestyle, improve your health, and live longer, and with the program in these pages, you can start reversing the effects of years of unhealthy living today. Here you'll find the ten simple lifestyle ingredients that will change your life. Stick with them and you'll lose weight without feeling hungry, your energy will surge, and you will look and feel healthier and stronger than you have in years. Included are more than 75 recipes for flavorful and healthful dishes, detailed meal plans, and tips for dining out healthfully and happily. You'll learn what kinds of physical activities are most effective and how to make the most of your time on the road or in the gym. You'll get sets of simple exercises you can do anywhere that will make you strong, help you shed fat, and keep you toned. The real science of lifestyle and heart health, from fat molecules to heart attacks, is described in accessible terms, and popular diet myths are debunked. You'll find out why lowcarbohydrate or other fad diets won't help you lose weight in the long run and why they won't improve your overall health. The Pritikin Edge gives you the real facts so you can take control of your health and add years to your life and quality to your years. Once you begin living with these principles, you'll wonder how you ever lived any other way.
