Get your copy now . . . _________ A few years ago I was asked if I'd like to make a documentary on the Mekong River, travelling from the vast delta in Vietnam to the remote and snowy peaks of Tibet. Up until that point, the farthest East I'd been was Torremolinos, in the Costa Del Sol. Here's the thing: I am scared of flying. I have zero practical skills. I can't survive if I am more than a three minute walk from a supermarket. For the last seven years I have suffered with crippling anxiety I bolt when panicked. I cannot bear to witness humans or animals in distress I have no ability to learn languages. I am a terrible hypochondriac Oh, and I am no good with boats. So I said yes. 'Vivid, laugh-out-loud, moving' Sunday Express 'An unvarnished, endearing and very funny account' Woman & Home _________ PRAISE FOR SUE PERKINS 'Drama, tears and laughs ... I ADORED it' Jessie Burton, bestselling author of The Miniaturist 'Very funny ... reading her memoir is very like meeting her' Sunday Times 'Charming and funny .... It's very, very funny and poignant and it's very Sue Perkins and that's the bliss of it' Nina Stibbe, bestselling author of Love, Nina

Croydon Tramlink is a new history about the network linking Wimbledon with Croydon in South London. This is the first full history of this fascinating tramway, which is about to celebrate its twentieth anniversary of opening. The book looks at the political, economic and social aspects of the network, as well as the mechanical history of the system. The tramway has been an important aspect in rejuvenating the Croydon area and improving transport links in an area lacking underground lines.

These volumes provide an essential comprehensive work of reference for the annual municipal elections that took place each November in the 83 County Boroughs of England and Wales between 1919 and 1938. They also provide an extensive and detailed analysis of municipal politics in the same period, both in terms of the individual boroughs and of aggregate patterns of political behaviour. Being annual, these local election results give the clearest and most authoritative record of how political opinion changed between general elections, especially useful for research into the longer gaps such as 1924 - 29 and 1935 - 45, or crisis periods such as 1929 - 31. They also illuminate the impact of fringe parties such as the Communist Party and the British Union of Fascists, and also such questions as the role of women in politics, the significance of religious and ethnic differentiation and the connection between occupational and class divisions and party allegiance. Analysis at the ward level is particularly useful for socio-spatial studies. 1919 - 1938 is indispensable for university libraries and local and national record offices. Each volume has approximately 700 pages.

As part of the Aviation Heritage Trail series, the airfields and interest in this book are concentrated in a particular area—in this case Kent, Surrey, East Sussex, Essex and Greater London. The South east of England emerged from six years of war with a rich diversity of RAF bomber and fighter airfields used by the 2nd Tactical Air Force, both before and after the D-Day landings. Much of this proud legacy is now threatening to disappear. However, the tourist can combine visits to an abundance of disused and active airfields, country houses and museums with countless attractions, imaginative locations and broadland and coastal hideaways that have no equal. The airfields and other places of interest include Northolt, Manston, Sculthorp, Dunsfold, Swanton Morley, Hunsdon, Gravesend, Detling, Biggin Hill, Kenley, Redhill, Gatwick, Heston, Hornchurch, Chailey, Coolham, Horne, West Malling and Newchurch. This book looks at the history and personalities associated with each base, what remains today and explores the favourite local wartime haunts where aircrew and ground crew would have sought well-deserved entertainment and relaxation. Other museums and places that are relevant will also be described and general directions on how to get them included.

For centuries a small but important market town, in open countryside and well separated from London, Croydon was the principal town in East Surrey ... not least because its markets and fairs were granted by the archbishops of Canterbury, who were the lords of the manor. Their ‘near London’ residence was there and by the 17th century their manor had become Croydon Palace. Enclosure of the commons paved the way for development and the town began to expand. Railways, made the place an ideal residential area for Londoners. This remarkable book tells the entire story of what is now the sixth largest commercial centre in the country.

All serious Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts want to visit London to see the places mentioned in the Great Detective s adventures. The e-book version of See the London of Sherlock Holmes allows enthusiasts to -visit- London from their home computers, or internet connected TVs. This is achieved by hyperlinking the latitude & longitude addresses in the book to the -Street View- feature in Google Maps. The map coordinates are also GPS addresses for those who visit London with hand-held GPS devices. The book groups the 400+ Sherlock Holmes sites by the nearest underground or railway station. Entering GPS addresses after arriving at the station will generate turn-by-turn directions from one Sherlock Holmes site to another. Six walking tour maps are also included. These are not the usual rambling tours, but walks in Holmes and Watsons footsteps. Finally, for those with a statistical bent, the book lists 454 characters named in the book, and statistically analyzes their titles and occupations.
