Question d'élégance.

"The Department of Justice Canada initiated the evaluation of the Contraventions Act Program to assess its relevance and performance over a three year period, from 2013-14 to 2015-16. In addition to meeting requirements contained in the 2009 federal Policy on Evaluation, this evaluation is directly linked to the broader accountability process related to the Roadmap for Canada's Official Languages 2013-2018. Parliament adopted the Contraventions Act to establish a ticketing system that could be used to enforce certain federal statutory offences designated as contraventions. This system is expected to better reflect the distinction between criminal offences and regulatory offences and to alter or abolish the consequences in law of being convicted of a contravention. Justice Canada also established the Contraventions Act Fund to support the implementation of the Contraventions Act in a manner consistent with all applicable constitutional and legislative language rights. This evaluation covers both the Act and the Fund"--Executive summary, p. i.

This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. This book analyses black Atlantic studies, colonial discourse analysis and postcolonial theory, providing paradigms for understanding imperial literature, Englishness and black transnationalism. Its concerns range from the metropolitan centre of Conrad's Heart of Darkness to fatherhood in Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk; from the marketing of South African literature to cosmopolitanism in Achebe; and from utopian discourse in Parry to Jameson's theorisation of empire.

Leading scientists, epidemiologists, and philosophers explore the unfolding Covid-19 pandemic and argue for the necessity of scientific reasoning and collective responsibility. We are living in the midst of the greatest public health crisis of our time. Confronting the many challenges of this moment--from the medical to the economic, the social to the political--demands all the moral and deliberative clarity we can muster. Bringing together coverage of the unfolding pandemic from the critically acclaimed Boston Review, this collection explores the history and social legacies of pandemics, explores the place of science in popular culture and policy-making, and interrogates the ways in which science and health have been politicized. Thinking in a Pandemic collects the latest arguments from doctors and epidemiologists, philosophers and economists, legal scholars and historians, activists and citizens, as they think not just through this moment but beyond it. While much remains uncertain, our responsibility to public reason is sure. Now, more than ever, we affirm the power of collective reasoning and imagination to create a healthier and more just world. Contributors include: Alex de Waal, David S Jones, Stefan Helmreich, Jeremy Greene, Dora Vargha, Jonathan Fuller, Marc Lipsitch, John Ioannidis, Trisha Greenhalgh, Sarah Burgard, Lucie Kalousova, Cailin O'Connoer, James Owen Weatherall, Natalie Dean.
