Yes, there are times when it’s appropriate to reason with your child, to patiently and eloquently explain why he or she needs to do as you ask. You might present convincing arguments like “Because it makes you strong”; “Because it will keep you safe”; “Because it’s good for you”; “Because it’s bad for you.” But there are times when the only thing that really makes sense is . . . “Because I said so!!” This book is a hilarious, honest romp through motherhood—the joys, the sleeplessness, the frazzled days, the unending carpooling, the in-house refereeing, the dieting (yeah, right), the worrying—and did we say, the joy? Here’s what some of that joy looks like—with excerpts straight from the book: • I tried to do the Buns of Steel video, but quickly realized that it wasn’t intended for people who have buns of pudding. • I felt like my head might explode. I kind of hoped it would so I could take a nice, peaceful ambulance ride out of there. • I was a little at a loss. I mean, those parenting books don’t tell you how to break up a fight over an imaginary friend. • Moms aren’t allowed to get sick more than one day a year. Single moms aren’t allowed to get sick ever. • Before you have children you can’t imagine yourself saying things like “Don’t put chocolate milk in your pants,” “Take the hot dog out of your nose,” or “Because I said so!” If you’re a mom-to-be or a mom in the trenches, you’ll love knowing that you’re not the only one out there who sometimes just figures it out as you go along—and sometimes can’t figure it out at all. But in the end, Dawn has these words of encouragement just for you: “Enjoy this time. Even when they make you crazy, these are the best days of your life.” And they really are, aren’t they?

Completely removing ourselves from circles we belong in because our minds have convinced us that we're not good enough. It happens! And in those moments that it happens, we make a choice. We choose to believe that nonsense clouding our mind, or, we choose to fight back- forcing our subconscious to adhere to what we know deep, deep down inside.... That "I'm that Chick!" Women should not be confined to societies expectations. As women who mean business, we move at our own pace, in whichever lane we choose, even if it means creating our own. Whether you're a momma who means business, an entrepreneur who means business, an artist who means business, a student who means business, a corporate woman who means business, a woman in leadership who means business, a creator who means business, an athlete who means business, or simply a woman who refuses to accept no for an answer, this one's for you! Today’s parents are all but completely disconnected from the commonsense parenting wisdom of their parents and grandparents. The self-esteem parenting revolution has erased the practical insights gathered by generations of parents about the best way to raise kids. In this book, John Rosemond seeks to recover this wisdom by resurrecting what parents of yesteryear tended to say. Maxims such as “because I said so,” “children should be seen not heard,” and “you’re acting too big for your britches” are more than cute sayings for John. They are parenting principles, springing from a biblical view of the world. John makes the case that these principles from the good old days are just as valid today and will help parents to pass on values to their kids so that they can succeed at life. Grandma was right after all!

Punctuation the Ultimate Guide

Grammar consists of many things, and one of the more important is punctuation. It is like the Rosetta Stone, providing the key to how writers want a reader to interpret what they wrote. Punctuation is even present when we speak. A slight pause is similar to a comma, a longer pause akin to a semicolon, and a stop equals a period. Question marks and exclamation points can be heard in the cadence of a person’s speech pattern and where the emphasis is placed and on which words. Almost all punctuation marks are represented in everyday speech, and therein lies the key to great dialogue—knowing how to use punctuation correctly with dialogue. There are some writers who are masters at it. Elmore Leonard was one of the best. Read his books, or listen to a few of the movies made from his books, and you’ll see a genius’s work. This book explains how to use punctuation in an easy-to-grasp manner.

Christmas Colors is a new A Christmas Carol for our modern hectic and often worrisome times. (Which seem to be sadly lacking in faith, hope, charity and magic.) It is the story of a family fragmented by distance and issues with their businesses, careers and personal and family relationships past and future. Determined to overcome this very Un-Christmas like spirit, the protagonist and narrator Jenny McKee, gathers her family together at their home in Austin, TX and proceeds to sprinkle a little Christmas cheer on them by motivating them to come together to prevent the loss of their fathers house painting business. In the course of the adventure new bonds are forged and a kind of strange Christmas magic begins to fuse the family back into a single motivated unit bent on overcoming their own fears and apprehensions, and unifying against the economic disaster of the past year. This Christmas miracle story is one of passion, whimsy, self-realization and renewal of faith; in God, belief in one another and even in the real Santa Claus. It is a fun; engaging family read that spreads the spirit of the Christmas colors, magic and cheer to every reader.

Renowned and respected family psychologist John Rosemond blames child-centered parenting books from recent decades for creating a generation of dependent, often defiant children. He sets the record straight in The New Six-Point Plan for Raising Happy, Healthy Children, an updated version of his highly successful book published more than fifteen years ago. Booms in technology and mass media have created significant changes in society in the last two decades. The text in this revised book has been thoroughly updated to reflect today's society, yet the foundation of Rosemond's timeless and effective approach remains constant. He encourages families to return to tried-and-true, fundamental parenting truths that people did naturally before the "new science of parenting": * Parents aren't their children's friends; they are their leaders. * Parents are at the center of a family-not kids. * Your marriage must come before your children. Each chapter includes easy-to-relate-to questions from parents, which Rosemond answers with both common sense and a sense of humor. For families feeling overwhelmed by competing advice about parenting, this book will ground them with logical, proven approaches to the most significant challenges parents face today. From issues such as self-esteem and discipline to television and chores, this straightforward guidance will facilitate a return to parent-centered families where children are raised into responsible adults.

The Dynamics of Powerful Parenting

The Dynamics of Powerful Parenting is a book about power, the power held by a parent to shape the development of a child, and the power of a child to either accept or reject those efforts. Often, when things are not working well for parents with their children, they will continue doing the same things, yet with ever more vigor. Usually, the result will be more of the same, only worse. A secret to understanding the dynamics of many human behaviors lies in the paradox of the Chinese Finger Puzzle (aka: Chinese Handcuff). The Chinese finger puzzle is a tube woven from bamboo shoots that is several inches long and about the diameter of a person's fingers; true to its nature, the tube will narrow as its ends are pulled. Thus, when the tube is slipped over the ends of fingers or thumbs on opposing hands, the subject's efforts to pull his or her fingers apart are met with increasing resistance from the device. So it is with much of being human. The thing that people wish to avoid most is the very thing that results from their efforts to do so. Dynamics is a book written with this paradox in mind. It is a book of insights about parenting that turns upside down many of the things that are currently held dear in "traditional" parenting efforts. It is a book that downplays the use of punishment, but never overlooks the need for discipline and responsibility. Dynamics encourages parents to think about what they are doing, how they are doing it, and what are they are experiencing as a result, then provides useful tools for changing undesired outcomes. It is a book that can produce positive results that will benefit generations yet unborn.

More Love Less Panic

In this heartwarming and hilarious memoir, Claude Knobler describes how he learned the hard way that the apple actually can fall far from the tree—and that’s Okay. Already the biological parents of a seven-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, Claude Knobler and his wife decided to adopt Nati, a five-year-old Ethiopian boy who seemed different from Knobler in every conceivable way. After more than five years spent trying to turn his wild, silly, adopted African son into a quiet, neurotic, Jewish guy like himself, Knobler realized the importance of having the courage to love, accept, and let go of his children. In this wonderfully written memoir, Knobler explains how his experiences raising Nati led him to learn a lesson that applied equally well to parenting his biological children: It’s essential to spend the time we are given with our children to love them and enjoy them, rather than push and mold them into who we think they should be.

Get Untied from Your Past Sex is like glue. Super human glue. Inside marriage, God designed it to be a bond that is powerful and unifying. Outside of marriage, the bonds of sex can be devastating. Long after the lover is gone, the bond we’ve created stays with us, negatively impacting our lives and future relationships. Now, through an impressive combination of Scripture and scientific research, Barbara Wilson shows how God designed us to be uniquely bonded through sex. But even more so, she concentrates on the tangible hope that is yours. This book will equip you not only to break those bonds, but to embrace a new, abandoned, wise, and thankful heart. You’ve had sex. But now sex has you. It’s a past that haunts the present. Sabotaged relationships, low self-esteem, sexual dysfunction, an empty spiritual life. Sex will bind you up and tie you down. Why? It’s just sex. But “just sex” means your body, soul, mind, and spirit have become one with another. Released from a past of her own, Barbara Wilson now combines scientific research with Scripture to offer striking new insights about what sexual bonding is, why it is harmful, and how to move freely into your future. Complete with a study guide for group or personal use, The Invisible Bond is your hands-on tool for changing not your past…but your life. “Barb’s honesty and vulnerability will inspire you to let God do in your life what He has done in hers, mine, and millions of other lives. He has set us free from self-defeating guilt and shame, helped us embrace our sexuality rather than fear it, and taught us how to enjoy genuinely healthy, intimate relationships. If that sounds appealing to you, then you hold the right book in your hands.” Shannon Ethridge Bestselling author of the Every Woman’s Battle series Story Behind the Book As abstinence director and educator for a Sacramento pregnancy center, Barbara Wilson talks to wounded and bleeding hearts every day. They’ve lost the war on sexual purity and the daily consequences are their reality. All they want is hope—hope that they can be free from the pain and shame that their past drags into their present and future. This book reveals the negative impact of sexual bonding and offers steps to freedom from past sexual and emotional bonds. But even more, it offers new direction for the free heart, and how to embrace an abandoned, overflowing life!

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER An explosive memoir from Bobby Hall, the multiplatinum recording artist known as Logic and the #1 bestselling author of Supermarket. This Bright Future is a raw and unfiltered journey into the life and mind of Bobby Hall, who emerged from the wreckage of a horrifically abusive childhood to become an era-defining artist of our tumultuous age. A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring seventeen years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and—with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education—he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age. In the message boards and livestreams of this brave new world, Bobby became Logic, transforming a childhood of violence, anger, and trauma into music that spread a resilient message of peace, love, and positivity. His songs would touch the lives of millions, taking him to dizzying heights of success, where the wounds of his childhood and the perils of Internet fame would nearly be his undoing. A landmark achievement in an already remarkable career, This Bright Future looks back on Bobby’s extraordinary life with lacerating humor and fearless honesty. Heart-wrenching yet ultimately uplifting, this book completes the incredible true story and transformation of a human being who, against all odds, refused to be broken.

This essential new text is designed for courses in contemporary moral issues, applied ethics, and leadership. Emphasizing personal choice in the study of ethics, the authors take the reader on a journey of self-discovery rather than a mere academic survey of the field of ethics. A Practical Guide to Ethics: Living and Leading with Integrity helps students develop their skills in ethical decision-making and put those decisions into effective practice. Its unique focus on leadership, especially the moral dimensions of understanding one's own values, teaches students to understand and, through dialog and negotiation, communicate their own beliefs as a step to building coalitions with those who may hold different views. It is also distinctive in combining ethical theory with both multicultural ethics (Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, feminism) and a practical orientation to moral decision-making and leadership.
