The embattled Kingsley administration is teetering on the edge of political ruin; fighting and losing an unwinnable war against drugs, and facing a tough re-election campaign. In order to save his Presidency, Operation Borgia White is spawned to stem the tide of the drug scourge enveloping America. Sporadic and untimely cocaine deaths sweep across the country. The Government attempts to reassure an anxious populace and sway public opinion toward more stringent measures the Administration has planned to eradicate the drug problem once and for all. Dr. Lester Phillips, a Washington, DC Pediatrician, has seen the first telltale signs of the plot; the seizures, the cardiac and respiratory arrest, the lightning fast death. With the help of his colleague, pathologist Ray Rafferty, they slowly begin to assemble and put together clues, aided by a disgruntled Justice Department official. As Lester and Ray continue to pursue the truth, dark forces within the Administration unleash attacks against the men, their families, and their reputations. After Ray is attacked and presumed dead or missing, Lester must fight alone until he is unjustly accused of crimes against the state and arrested. During his captivity, he comes face to face with the mastermind of the intricate operation. As the plot finally unfolds, Lester realizes that the deaths of thousands of people have been collateral damage, and something far more sinister is planned. Lester is able to escape his captors, but is injured. He must make his way back to Washington, DC and warn the targets of the plot before it is too late. In the balance is the fate of American way of life as we know it.

College Drinking

Drinking is recognized as one of the most important problems confronting students on campus today, with major impacts on health and safety. This book answers crucial questions about why students drink, examines its complex links to campus crime and sexual assault, and offers new insights on how to address the issue. It differs from other studies of college drinking by dispelling the myth that the problem is universal. Dowdall’s research reveals that the incidence of alcohol abuse varies enormously between colleges, and in doing so identifies interventions and policies that have been effective, and those that have failed. His study is also unique in looking “upstream” at the broader cultural, organizational and social forces that shape this behavior, where most studies focus only on “downstream” behaviors, well after students have selected their college and have started drinking. Students and parents can take action to lower the risk of binge drinking by following the book’s recommendations, and consulting the data it provides about alcohol violations and crime at thousands of colleges. For administrators and student affairs personnel, it both defines and illuminates the issue, and outlines effective interventions.

The scenarios cover everything from basic skills such as taking a history or describing a disorder, to more advanced problems, such as working with the hostile family and assessing risk in the emergency setting. This case-based role-play approach is ideal for those preparing for psychiatry Observed Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). David Suzuki’s autobiography limns a life dedicated to making the world a better place. The book expands on the early years covered in Metamorphosis and continues to the present, when, at age 70, Suzuki reflects on his entire life — and his hopes for the future. The book begins with his life-changing experience of racism interned in a World War II concentration camp, and goes on to discuss his teenage years, his college and postgraduate experiences in the U.S., and his career as a geneticist and then as the host of The Nature of Things. With characteristic candor and passion, he describes how he became a leading environmentalist, writer, and thinker; the establishment of the David Suzuki Foundation; his world travels and meetings with luminaries like Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama; and the abiding role of nature and family in his life. David Suzuki is an intimate and inspiring look at a modern-day visionary.
