Excerpt from The Awakening of India During a recent extensive tour of India in pursuit of my duties as an American newspaperman, I was accorded a large number of interviews by eminent authorities, on important subjects relating to the In dian Empire. At that time it had not occurred to me to make use of these statements in any other way than originally intended, namely, to tell the people of the United States through the press something of present conditions in India. Upon my return to Eng land, however, it was urged upon me that these inter views should be collected into book form, especially in View of the great change wrought in India by the war. Accordingly I have prepared this volume, selecting such interviews as appear best to show the general situation, and adding to them certain facts collected during my visit. Controversial subjects necessarily have been dealt with, but I wish to state emphatically that the book is intended in no way as a criticism of the Government of India or of the Princes and people of the Indian Empire. Why and how did Islam become such a political force in so many Muslim-majority countries? In this book, Jocelyne Cesari investigates the relationship between modernization, politics, and Islam in Muslim-majority countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Turkey - countries that were founded by secular rulers and have since undergone secularized politics. Cesari argues that nation-building processes in these states have not created liberal democracies in the Western mold, but have instead spurred the politicization of Islam by turning it into a modern national ideology. Looking closely at examples of Islamic dominance in political modernization, this study provides a unique overview of the historical and political developments from the end of World War II to the Arab Spring that have made Islam the dominant force in the construction of the modern states, and discusses Islam's impact on emerging democracies in the contemporary Middle East.

Using a creative and poetic modality, Diego Pignatelli explores myth, religion, science and spirituality—the “liminal” territories of modern psychology. He introduces us toTranspersonal Psychology, Grof’s holotropic paradigm and perinatal dynamics, mythology, oriental and Indian psychology, as well as Jungian, and depth psychology. Pignatelli also discusses the fields of parapsychology, shamanism, thanatology, Near Death Experiences (NDE), Out of Body Experiences (OBEs - astral travels occur during non-ordinary states of consciousness and travels to parallel universes through the Star Gates or “portals” of other mythological dimensions). He also teaches us about Kundalini awakening, mandala cosmology, altered/nonordinary states of consciousness (NOSC), psychedelic therapy and the implications of the new emerging paradigm whose holonomic theory and multidimensional psyche are currently explored by modern consciousness research.
