This work argues that in the age of (neoliberal) globalization, black people around the world are slowly becoming “African-Americanized”. This is due to the influence of two social class language games of the black American community, the black underclass and black American liberal/conservative bourgeois, spreading throughout the African Diaspora.

This work explores phenomenological structural sociology, specifically the use of phenomenological structuralism in an effort to resolve the structure/agency problematic of the social sciences within structurationist sociological theory. Through its analysis and critique of structurationist sociology, the underlying tenets of this problematic of the social sciences are outlined. The text goes on to synthesize Haitian and Vilokan idealism, phenomenology, Althusserian structural Marxism, quantum mechanics, and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s notion of language games in order to offer an alternative reading of the structure/agency problematic, which holds onto the notions of structure, duality, dualism, and the individual’s rational ability to choose to account for the constitution of the individual and society in the resource framework of the earth.

This book explores the nature of learning and development in the philosophy of phenomenological structuralism, which represents an effort to resolve the structure/agency problematic of the social sciences within structurationist sociological theory. Through the analysis and critique of structurationist sociology, the book outlines the underlying tenets of this problematic. It goes on to synthesize Haitian ontology and epistemology, phenomenology, Althusserian structural Marxism, quantum mechanics, and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s notion of language games. As such, it offers an alternative reading of the structure/agency problematic, which holds on to the notions of structure, duality, dualism, and the individual’s rational ability to choose to account for the constitution of the individual and society in, and as, the resource framework of the earth. In the final analysis, the study outlines the implications for this social ontology in the domain of learning and development. It utilizes two case studies, black America and Haiti, to highlight its conclusions that learning and development in this phenomenological structuralism are both Vygotskyian and Chomskyian. Studies of preaching and preaching style have up to this point focused almost exclusively on a western eurocentric understanding of good preaching. Preach It encourages students, both vocational and scholarly, to look beyond these approaches and to learn from traditions with which they are less familiar. The distinctive style and techniques that African Caribbean Pentecostal preachers have inherited has been shaped by historical, political and socio-economic factors impacting on black Caribbean people (including clergy). Using a variety of socio-linguistic and theological approaches, Preach It reflects on these techniques, and outlines how preachers across church traditions might learn from them and use them in their own contexts.

Afro-Colombian Hip-Hop: Globalization, Transnational Music, and Ethnic Identities, by Christopher Dennis, reveals how, through a mode of transculturation, Afro-Colombian youth are transforming U.S. hip-hop into a more autonomous art form used for articulating oppositional social and political critiques, reworking ethnic identities, and actively taking part in the reimagining of the nation. This book represents a valuable addition to the body of academic work emerging from scholars bringing Afro-Colombian issues to the forefront of Colombian and Latin American studies, specifically by documenting the contributions that today s young black artists are making to both national culture and local music practices."
