Every moment spent in the Presence of God is precious. He is always speaking to us. The question is, are we taking the time to listen to what He is saying? Jesus longs for us to hear His voice, and He longs for us to speak with Him daily. God is not distant, but closer than we can comprehend, and when we draw closer, intimacy occurs. This life was meant for intimacy with Christ. We were meant to know Him and to hear His voice. In this devotional, Moments In His Presence, Dawn Hill takes you on an intimate journey in pursuit of Christ. It is a glimpse into the private moments shared between God and His beloved, moments He desires to share with each of us that follow after Him. You will be challenged and encouraged as you go on your own journey to grow in your relationship with the Lord. You will understand the importance of keeping a journal with God, and you will understand the importance of receiving personal communion. A lot can happen in forty days. Has he promised that the end time glory will exceed the former glory experienced in the Old Testament temple? Could national revival be birthed in a single day? Is it possible that man will once again hear the audible voice of God? In this book, we will explore these possibilities as we endeavor to birth within each reader a fresh and renewed hunger for the manifest presence of the Lord. A Life

Dancer, actress, mountaineer, and director Leni Riefenstahl's uncompromising will and audacious talent for self-promotion appeared unmatched—until 1932, when she introduced herself to her future protector and patron: Adolf Hitler. Known internationally for two of the films she made for him, Triumph of the Will and Olympia, Riefenstahl's demanding and obsessive style introduced unusual angles, new approaches to tracking shots, and highly symbolic montages. Despite her lifelong claim to be an apolitical artist, Riefenstahl's monumental and nationalistic vision of Germany's traditions and landscape served to idealize the cause of one of the world's most violent and racist regimes. Riefenstahl ardently cast herself as a passionate young director who caved to the pressure to serve an all-powerful Führer, so focused on reinventing the cinema that she didn't recognize the goals of the Third Reich until too late. Jürgen Trimborn's revelatory biography celebrates this charismatic and adventurous woman who lived to 101, while also taking on the myths surrounding her. With refreshing distance and detailed research, Trimborn presents the story of a stubborn and intimidating filmmaker who refused to be held accountable for her role in the Holocaust but continued to inspire countless photographers and filmmakers with her artistry.

The Pursuit of Serenity

Havelock Ellis and the New Politics

Author: Chris Nottingham

Publisher: Amsterdam University Press

Category: Social Science

Havelock Ellis' reputation has been in free fall since his death in 1939. Though still acknowledged as a pioneer in the study of human sexuality, he now evokes hostility from those he would have considered his natural heirs. Feminist authors have been particularly critical, identifying him as the kind of friend women would have done well to ignore. While there is no need to put Ellis back on his pedestal, it is clear that recent interpretations underestimate his significance for progressive politics on both sides of the Atlantic. This book examines the many areas to which he contributed (preventive medicine, progressive penology, internationalism, the championing of Ibsen and Nietzsche, as well as feminism and human sexuality) and argues that the vision unifying his endeavors was rooted in the radical generational movement which swept through London in the late nineteenth century. This approach offers both appreciation of Ellis and a richer, more realistic view of the progressive tradition itself.

The Pursuit of the Heiress

Aristocratic Marriage in Ireland 1740-1840

Publisher: Ulster Historical Foundation

Category: History

The Pursuit of the Heiress is a new, greatly enlarged and more widely focused version of what the late Lawrence Stone described as "a brilliant long essay or short book on the subject of the role of heiresses among the Irish aristocracy," which was published by the Ulster Historical Foundation under the same title in 1982 and has long been out of print. The new book comes to the same broad conclusions about heiresses—namely that their importance as a means of enlarging the estates or retrieving the fortunes of their husbands has been much exaggerated. This was because known heiresses were well protected by a variety of legal devices and, in common with many aristocratic women of the day, also had minds and strong preferences of their own—which meant that they were not generally an object of deliberate or profitable pursuit. The new book also ranges more widely than its central theme of heiresses and addresses other aspects of aristocratic marriage such as abductions, elopements, mésalliances, the supposed "rise of the affective family," and the disadvantaged situation of even the richest and most privileged women in an age when both adultery and divorce were largely the prerogative of men.
