Die Starkung der Heereskraft in der Antike, die Uberwachung des Volkes und die politische Willensbildung uber den Sport im Nationalsozialismus sowie die sportliche Machtdemonstration der DDR gegenuber dem kapitalistischen Ausland bringen zum Ausdruck, dass Sport in der Arbeit mit Kindern und Jugendlichen oft als Medium zur Verfolgung militarischer und politischer Ziele eingesetzt wurde. Der geschichtliche Abriss zeigt aber ebenso deutlich, dass sich bereits in der Vergangenheit, insbesondere zur Zeit GutsMuths und Rousseaus, ganzheitliche Sichtweisen sowie Erziehungs- bzw. Bildungsansatze herausbildeten, welche die Rolle des Korpers unter philanthropischen" Gesichtspunkten berucksichtigten. Dabei standen gesundheitliche Aspekte z. B. zur Begegnung degenerativer Erkrankungen im Zuge der Industrialisierung ebenso im Vordergrund wie padagogische Blickwinkel, die Bewegung und Sport als notwendige Korpererfahrung zur Selbstkonzeptentwicklung verstanden. In Deutschland lasst sich aktuell ein hohes Sportinteresse unter jungen Menschen beobachten, welches vorrangig im Verein ausgelebt wird. Dabei wird festgestellt, dass Kinder und Jugendliche aus sozial benachteiligten Familien (einkommensschwach, ungunstige Lebensbedingungen, schwieriges Lebensumfeld) weniger Sport treiben sowie seltener im Verein anzutreffen sind als gleichaltrige Jungen und Madchen, die nicht von sozial prekaren Lebensumstanden betroffen sind.
