Readers discover how to build a solid foundation in their inner man to weather the storms of life and turn those difficulties around as stepping stones for their future success. Dr. Don Shorter shares through extensive personal experience and scriptural principles that believers can move into a rewarding life through the Word of God. Opposition should not be a stopping point for believers, but another chance for God to show Himself strong on their behalf. By removing obstacles and hindrances through making simple adjustments, readers will be on their way to success. They will discover a winner's lifestyle of talking success, believing they are successful, and living like a winner. More than just another motivational book, Dr. Shorter reveals the importance of fighting the fight of faith in your thought life. By cultivating positive thoughts uncovered in God's Word, readers will renew their minds to the principles of a winner's lifestyle. Shorter gives inspiration and sound biblical advice to win in life much like John Maxwell's book, Today Matters. Where Maxwell encourages readers to focus on 12 principles on a daily basis for success, Shorter simplifies this process by giving readers spiritual principles and instruction on how to be led by the spirit of God in day to day decisions.

This study comprises an analysis of public spheres in National Socialist Germany. It investigates where and under what circumstances resistance to Hitler's regime was possible. The author focuses on the space of the crypto-public - defined as a politicized private sphere - as a potential realm for anti-state activism. Based on the activities of four organizations operating in Germany between 1933 and 1944 - the "Jewish Cultural Association Berlin," the "Kreisau Circle," the "White Rose," and the "Schulze-Boysen/Harnack Organization" - she analyzes how this social locus functioned to foster resistance to National Socialism. She examines the artifacts of these groups - leaflets, pamphlets, politico-economic treatises, and theater performances - in order to establish models of crypto-public spaces and evaluate their possibilities and limitations as sites of resistance.

Upon completion of basic training at Camp Wolters Texas Infantry Replacement Training Center, the author shipped overseas to the European Theater of Operations. After a rough crossing of the English Channel and passing through several replacement depots, he was assigned to an infantry line company. The unit, severely decimated by casualties, was currently engaged in the bloody battle of Hurtgen Forrest. Though trained as a rifleman, he volunteered to be a light machine gunner, though he knew that the automatic weapons of the company were a prime target for enemy gunners. He was also aware that the life expectancy of a machine gunner was considerably shorter than that of a rifleman. However, when the company commander made it clear that someone had to be a machine gunner and, since no one else volunteered, the author reluctantly laid down his trusty M-1 rifle and filled the vacancy. During the balance of the conflict, the author raised the average life of a light machine gunner considerably. Though he was a late combat arrival, he earned three campaign stars and beat all the odds when, by the end of the war, they had not yet fired the bullet with his name on it.

In this touching story about the highest-level executive to turn whistleblower of all time, Mark Whitacre tells all. Enormously revealing and moving, this biography shares with its readers how, via faith in God and the patient love of his wife Ginger, Mark is today an inspiring spiritual force for good in the world. Written with finesse and passion, Mark Whitacre Against All Odds reveals the family’s perspective, especially how Ginger kept Mark alive. Through her, his story begins where most other incarcerated men’s ends— in prison. It details how Whitacre got down on his knees in a filthy cell and begged God for guidance; how, from that moment on, he removed fears or doubts in his existence. Liberated after nearly a decade in prison, Whitacre’s essential message is simple—live by the Golden Rule, always tell the truth, look for the good in everyone, and know that spiritual wealth is far more important than material wealth. Author Stevin Hoover invites everyone to learn why Whitacre is called a national hero by the FBI and a spiritual inspiration by Paul A. Willis who wrote the Foreword. Discover how Whitacre is now dedicated to living in accordance with spiritual principles that apply to everyone’s life. Well-written, candid, and sincere, Mark Whitacre Against All Odds is one of the best of the world’s tell-alls—as genial, eccentric, and unique as Whitacre’s life. Read this book and discover how Mark Whitacre has triumphed against all odds. Says the author "People say there is nothing certain in life except death and taxes. Well, you can add one more thing to that. The only other thing that is as certain in life as death and taxes is that Ginger and Mark Whitacre will never get divorced. It is an impossibility because their love is unshakable."

Compared to the famously fecund rabbit, for whom a single act of coitus has a 90% chance of creating a litter of up to 12 rabbits, humans are very infertile animals. Here in the UK, the average chance of conception is about 18% per month. And in 98% of cases, successful conception leads only to the birth of a single infant. It is unsurprising then that huge efforts have been made to increase our fertility. In vitro fertilisation, first attempted one hundred years ago, has now become big business. Market forces, combined with the desperation of many couples to fulfil their biological imperative, have pushed doctors and scientists closer to the boundaries of what is desirable or ethical. And as we are increasingly able to access and control the embryo, the opportunities of altering human genetics to eradicate disease, but also to change human characteristics, becomes a real, and to some, frightening possibility. A Child Against All Odds is a ground-breaking book for Robert Winston as it falls squarely in his area of expertise. It combines his work at Hammersmith Hospital as one of the country's leading fertility specialists, with a hard-hitting, sometimes humorous, often controversial look at the scientific, social and ethical background of man's struggle to discover and control the secrets of reproduction. Drawing on personal and professional experience, it is the definitive account of modern reproductive technology from a practitioner who has spent his professional life at the forefront of this most fascinating and emotive area of science.
